Re: The Formula One Thread

I'm sure you're right René. At the moment it's all up for grabs and we may even not have a McLaren at all.

Re: The Formula One Thread

And, McLaren have been called to account for themselves at a FIA meeting in Paris on the 29th. No constructors points again?

Re: The Formula One Thread

I under stand that Tumbrels are drawn up outside filled with swords for participants to fall on sad
the charge sheet looks pretty clear
.............................
Vodafone McLaren Mercedes is charged that it......
- on 29 March, 2009, told the stewards of the Australian Grand Prix that no instructions were given to Hamilton in Car No. 1 to allow Trulli in Car no. 9 to pass when both cars were behind the safety car, knowing this statement to be untrue;

- procured its driver Hamilton the current World Champion, to support and confirm this untrue statement to the stewards;

- although knowing that as a direct result of its untrue statement to the stewards, another driver and a rival team had been unfairly penalised, made no attempt to rectify the situation either by contacting the FIA or otherwise;

- on 2 April, 2009, at a second hearing before the stewards of the Australian Grand Prix, (meeting in Malaysia) made no attempt to correct the untrue statement of 29 March but, on the contrary, continued to maintain that the statement was true, despite being allowed to listen to a recording of the team instructing Hamilton to let Trulli past and despite being given more than one opportunity to correct its false statement;

- on 2 April, 2009, at the second stewards' hearing, procured its driver Hamilton to continue to assert the truth of the false statement given to the stewards on 29 March, while knowing that what he was saying to the stewards was not true."
.............................
but to cut it down abit
"I knew that He knew but he didn't say he knew"
...............................
In response, McLaren issued the following press release:
"McLaren acknowledges receipt of an invitation to appear at an FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in Paris on April 29, received this afternoon. We undertake to co-operate fully with all WMSC processes, and welcome the opportunity to work with the FIA in the best interests of Formula 1.

"This afternoon McLaren and its former sporting director, Dave Ryan, have formally parted company. As a result, he is no longer an employee of any of the constituent companies of the McLaren Group."
...............................
Again to shorten it ;
"We Knew that He Knew but he didn't say He Knew So we sacked him"
In the mean while we will cod up some feeble excuse for you on the 29th
thank god its not Bastille day

Re: The Formula One Thread

Mercedes may be feeling rather pleased that they have Brawn to fall back on.

Re: The Formula One Thread

In case one thinks that the Brits think their teams can do no wrong, a reader's poll in my newspaper thought that McLaren should be served with a very severe penalty.

Part of me thinks that they should reap what they sow.We have had too many dodgy dealings in the last couple of seasons.Race the car, pass the chequered flag first and you win simple as that .All this Who-Ha about ducting/defuser being wrong shape and size, stewards investigating taking weeks to sort out. The rules should be plain to
interpret.The whiz kids on the technical committee who made the rules should be on hand to yea or nay it promptly.not wait weeks.
Back to the current shenanigans, While I don't want to see them get away with weasel word excuses.A severe penalty is called for . An exclusion of the team and therefore the drivers would spoil the spread across the grid of several different contestants striving to get to the line first also the defense of LH's world title .I am assuming that if Found guilty & Maclaren is given a multi race ban that means no testing.
Anthony Hamilton Lewis's dad and manager is talking about moving to another team. Which one I don't see any empty seats going begging and although its Maclaren who are in the FIA court room to answer charges Lewis didn't come clean at the stewards meetings.
& having been in racing long enough to know the yellow flag safety car rules.He was given bad advice after asking what to do but compounded the crime by telling untruths.
These are just thoughts on subject raising more questions than answers

Re: The Formula One Thread

In all honesty, I don't think that Lewis should get away scot free. He's a very highly paid individual who is good at his job and goes ex pat like the rest of them to avoid paying tax in the country that supported him and whose team is based here.
Clearly, he knew what the issue was when asked to lie and wasn't big enough to say 'sorry' I'm not prepared to do that for the sake a few points. 'To Your Own Self be True' is surely the real guide. Now, for ever, there will be the feeling he was prepared to cheat for personal gain. A bit like some of the Bankers we talk about.
Let's hope Jenson remains uncorrupted, otherwise my faith will go completely.
