Re: The Formula One Thread

Vettel wins, Button second and Alonso third. Driver points battle narrows and Constructor points increase for RB.
Once again I needed field glasses to find Webber but he made a nice move near the end to pick up an extra point.
Nice race but I still don't like that track much. My vote would be to drop the timed event rule. What did they save ... 8 minutes? sad
Now we island hop to the figure 8 at Japan and a better (imo) track.
Cheers! coffee

I AGREE, if the 2 hour limit can be adjusted to say if they are within 10 laps of the full race they should continue until either light prohibits it, the safety car is deployed or the original lap count is reached. This 2 hour limit seems arbitrary to me! Teams will HAVE to adjust for the possibility of running longer, meaning more fuel, changing tires or whatever else comes up.

I too LOVE Suzuka!!

I wonder how today's non finish will affect Hamilton's contract and possible move to someplace else? Button, his teammate, comes in 2nd while Hamilton drops out with transmission problems WHILE LEADING THE RACE!

AND Perez will replace Hamilton at McLaren, so Sauber now has a vacancy! The speculation now is will Schumacher go to Sauber or will he retire, will he go to Ferrari or what? IF Schumacher goes to Ferrari will Massa go to Sauber or retire? LOTS of questions left to answer in the last half dozen races. What about Heikki, he has put in alot of time at the back of the pack after driving for McLaren alongside Hamilton and doing okay.

They are 'saying' Perez is NOT bringing any money to McLaren, but it must be going somewhere.

PLEASE don't give Bernie any more ideas!! His medals, sprinklers, express lanes and now 'Grand Slam Events' are whacky enough!! In your 'idea' who would ever root for a Team anymore, it would be like the failed thing they did in the United States a while back, every driver swapped cars after every race. All cars were identical and the 1st place diver took the lat place car, etc. for the next race. It was supposed to showcase the skill of the driver not the car, but it only lasted a year or so and then died out. Not enough sponsors or fans. People root for Ferrari AND their drivers, the same thing for every Team, but if the driver was unknown until the week of the race Teams would become generic and the racing would become bland and generic too, IMHO. I mean one week you would have a 7 time WDC in the car and the next week you could get a 1st year rookie! How on Earth do you setup a car for that wide of an experience ratio? I think the answer is to make it sooo generic anyone can drive it, essentially dumbing it down to the lowest common denominator, and making the racing terrible! Also Teams would be unwilling to do the tweaks necessary to stay ahead now, as each driver would take what he learns from one Team with him to the next place he goes. Perez is going from Sauber to McLaren, he WILL take what he knows about the Sauber car with him and probably make the McLaren a better car as a result. How on earth can a car that is a never was become a car that can get on the podium TWICE for 2nd place when the McLaren cars are not a whole lot better, yet for the money invested the McLarens should be ALOT better!!!

I saw that, that is just AMAZING to me that they NEED an F1 engine to be a PUMP for a jet engine!!

P1 and P2 are now over and Red Bull is leading, AGAIN!! Several Teams have had accidents though, the dirt seems VERY slippery when they go off track! I am guessing most of the track will be treated as a 'street circuit' with walls for the edges as they go forward. The GOOD NEWS is it is DRY and no rain is expected throughout the weekend!! The BAD news is that the race is held at 3pm local time and Sunset is at 5:30pm, so any delays could be VERY costly!! Also the 3PM start along with the 13 hour time difference to the East Coast of the US means the race is held at 2AM EST, THAT IS NOT GOOD!!!
