Re: Un-official Grid.org Refugee Transition Center.

Duh? Do you get extra points for being in a team? That's wierd...

Effy - did you say you have a team? What is the link.

How do you get in touch with people offline here?

For the benefit of those who may not see the answer in another thread, WCG is big on privacy. There's not a way to get a list of folks email addresses. However, if you want to allow others to contact you offline, click on Forums, My Forum Profile. You can check on the Show Email box to have a link with your email address included in your posts. You can also have links to your web page and various IM ids you may have. That can give folks reading your posts the info they will need to contact you.

Re: Un-official Grid.org Refugee Transition Center.

I don't like the thought of points going to waste so I joined biggrin

Nope, being part of a team gets you nothing point-wise. That's doesn't mean there's nothing to gain from joining a team though. biggrin

Indeed it doesn't, what I meant is that it would be better to add any points I'm gaining to a team total rather that just mine.

BTW E.F. why not join us? tongue

Re: Un-official Grid.org Refugee Transition Center.

For those who are incountering the problem with no private menssenger here. consider that there are many messengers to be had, my email is also my msn messenger account. So if you have msn messenger, load my email addy as a new contact and i will see you pop up when im next on. Also, if i get incoming email or message. i have it so i know immedately. If the email to the user is available like mine is, then click them like you did the old pm system at grid.org

The email button, if enabled, is at the bottom of each post. Its the little house. If you hover over it, you can see the address.

funny.... it's a sheet of paper and a styled open envelope.... time to visit the optomotrist :D

The mail icon does not function for a guest, so there is some protection against the spread of the email info in the wild. Keep it save as it's the same as e.g. your BOINC email account!

Re: Un-official Grid.org Refugee Transition Center.

Many team forums (inc UKBOINC), allow you to PM other forum members without needing to join the team just the forum. You do not have to use your Boinc e-mail address either. smile

Re: Un-official Grid.org Refugee Transition Center.

I think you are talking about fora who are not associated with a BOINC project. Yes logically a 3rd party or stand alone team forum software can set up. Given that these fora are lots more private, they are most probably much less prone to visits by intruders.

AFAIK no BOINC forum on standard BOINC forum software has PM anyway, so it seems more the exception than the rule to have one at a DC project.

shock Re: Un-official Grid.org Refugee Transition Center.

coffee coffee yes, hehe, needed more coffee. coffee you're right. The house is for website not email. coffee

sad I have to admit, I have PTSD really bad from the grid thing. It will take days if not weeks to recover. Also, all of us are going through adjustment disorder. Making simple tasks into mini nightmares. crying

Im looking at unpacking the stuff I copied out of my old team thread, into the new one here. It's not much to do, but its a strain to just get a few things up and going.

The only real problem is that this happend sooooooooo fast, that it became a disaster. The disaster was not that the grid closed, I consider that a victory to be proud of. It showed clearly there is a place in this world for efforts like yours (now ours) here. Offering creadiblity to inspire envolvment in this revolution of mind and machine, even though the current indicators would show otherwise. The disaster was that a good 30,000 machine just got tossed in the air, rather than a controlled exodus that would have automaticly connected those to an active distribution point or not simply here. Its the loss of a good half of the system in the grid to to other projects, but to the wind.

We should see, in the next few days, a sharp increase in activity in here and in the stat's. If the fortitude of the average gridder should see to come here and continue on, then it should be a good strong boost. If not, the damage may be unimaginable.

In the end, things will return to normal, but nothing will ever be the same.

I'm sure that here, like there, many just don't visit the forums.
So don't despair, I'm sure the majority of those wishing to help in some way will find somewhere to do it.
