No, it will close a running client, where in past it would stop the install process. It's nowadays even more forceful, for sometimes the installer did not succeed doing the closing.

It didn't work, I had to install manually, and the new client was unable to take over from the old. What now?

False alarm, it works now. I can't say that the installer is very impressive, I had to copy everything manually to get it to work.
