Can you give us link to that FAQ please, so we can see to getting the wording reviewed and updated.
----------------------------------------The 'preferences' are actually in the My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profile. Assuming u use the BOINC 'Default' profile, go in there and find "Disk and Memory Usage, Use no more than: 2.0 Gigabytes of disk space. It will not be reserved just allowed in case it will ever be needed. For each CPU core add 2 gb for complete safety.

here is the requested link : http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=points
it says " Hard Disk Storage: On your preferences page, you set the megabytes of hard disk space allocated and available to World Community Grid projects..." with your explanations, I have found the preference pages. I have also upgraded my BOINC manager from 5.4 to 5.8 and this new release includes a preferences tab on which I was able to detail the allowed disk storage. However it is unclear for me how the preference setup within the website interact with the boinc manager setup ... ![]() |

The BOINC Manager preferences override the website preferences.

I thought so, but wanted to be sure. The verbiage relates to the UD(WCG) agent, though not totally obvious.
----------------------------------------What's the exact BOINC version u got hold off? If 5.8.5 ditch it... it's very buggy and one moment or the other using that erroneous included feature will cause it to crash. Please go to 5.8.11 as the recommended level....get it here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php The local preference go into an 'override' file and only apply to the particular device. The once u set in the profile on the website are replicated automatically to all devices u run under the same User ID and profile (there are 4 standard BOINC profiles available). Read the system requirements and understand that the disk/memory settings need to be multiplied by the number of cores running BOINC simultaneous. The servers will not send work for a particular project when detecting insufficient resource availability/allocation.
