I got my Kentsfield up and running with a mild overclock! She'll do alot more but I have some cooling problems to deal with first. There's no sluggishness at all, everything responds instantly as it should with such a processor. 2GB of RAM would be the minimum required to run 4 threads and still have a useful computer. 4 FAAH WU's can take up 400MB on their own. I've seen HDC's peak at over 600MB each! So 4 of those at the same time might pose a problem, but I've never seen more than 2 being crunched at the same time. A QX6700 at stock speed should be able to crank about 9500 WCG points per day. At 3.4GHz, where I hope to run mine, it would be 13000+ points/day. ![]() ![]() |

GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3
----------------------------------------1.42v Swiftech water cooling: Storm water block, dual 120mm rads, MCP655 pump. Watercooling is essential for overclocking a Kentsfield. The heat output is just too much for air cooling. I also don't recommend this motherboard for a quad core. It has MASSIVE voltage droop going from idle to load, somewhere in the neighborhood of 0.1v! I'm going to look into the new DFI Lanparty board or possibly an ASUS. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by olympic at Jan 11, 2007 2:21:25 PM] |

I have my quad core running at 3.4ghz on air, using an Asus P5W DH Deluxe. I was able to get it running stable at 3.48ghz. But it's out in my garage, which has no AC, and the ambient air during daytime can get warm. So I cranked it down a bit to give it some buffer.
