Anyone lucky enough to get one of these for Christmas?

Dell XPS 710 Core 2 Extreme QX6700

http://www.dell.com/content/products/productd...;l=en&s=dhs&cs=19

* With 4 processor cores total it looks like a good crunching machine.

I'm going to wait until the prices go down and a more efficient version is released.

AMD plans to release a new core, competitive with Core 2, in the second half of 2007. AMD intends to start with a high end 4-core chip and then work their way down to lowly dual-core releases in 2008. I expect prices to plummet due to competition.

It is always possible to get a better price / performance ratio by delaying. And it makes you feel virtuous! laughing At least, if you are as stingy as I am. tongue

Neat stuff ! However did you see the price for the Dell system. $3699.00 US. I checked and found the chip alone is $1100.00 US at its cheapest. I think it will be a couple of years before one of these ends up in my Christmas stocking.

Cheers

I treated myself for Christmas. Not a Dell though. I'm putting a quad core in a Gigabyte DQ6 mobo. Have all the parts, but still sitting in the packaging for now.

Hi Movieman! I just just bought this:

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist...648&WishListTitle=C2Q

This will be my first OC machine. The parts arrive in a few days. I'm sure I'll be asking for OC tips...

Great stuff Movieman.

I take it that you are using a 64 bit OS with that 8MB. I hope you dont mind me being nosey and asking which one and did you have any problems running BOINC/WCG with it ? Thanks.

Edit: What a dummy I am. biggrin Just realised that would have been 8GB the way I was thinking. 8MB must be the cache. Ignore me. laughing
