For those running with a QX6700, does BOINC run 4 work units at the same time?
Any sluggishness? How many points per day (and with how much ram) are you getting? |

Hello Mark099,
BOINC could run 16 threads if you had 8 hyperthreading cores. 4 threads on a QX6700 should be a snap. The thing to worry about then is RAM and BIOS limitations on RAM. Unless you are careful, you might run into the 2.8 GB limit on addressable ram, which could conceivably cause 4 HDC threads to really slow down. I suspect that would be an unlikely event in real life, but odd possible problems like that have to be considered when you start moving into multi-threading. Lawrence |

Not if you run a 64 bit OS designed for large amounts of memory (Mac OSX, Unix, Linux, and even XP 64). However, of those, only Linux and OSX have WCG applications. ![]() |

Lawrence I currently have 4GB of ram and an overclocked E6600. I am running XP Pro and Windows only recognizes 2.93GB of ram. I do plan on upgrading to Vista at the end of the month. Vista does address the ram issue, doesn't it? |

Here is a (non-authoritative) thread about memory limits. At least it points out things that need checking.

So, basically, Vista (32-bit) will not be any better at handling more than 3GB of ram than XP is now? |

So, basically, Vista (32-bit) will not be any better at handling more than 3GB of ram than XP is now? Vista has some bells-and-whistles that were left out (or cut out) of Windows XP. It ought to handle memory at least slightly better than Windows XP, but not dramatically. A lot depends on all the other chips and devices in the computer, plus the BIOS. So maybe some mother boards will let Vista play with an additional half gigabyte. Just have to wait and see. |

Someone was ahead of the curve: 6GB on Vista64: http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=36595
----------------------------------------This article emphasises that Vista 64 is needed to get the full 4gb access. http://news.softpedia.com/news/2x2GB-Memory-K...ady-For-Vista-42385.shtml
