For the last hour or so, I've had 3 pc's repeatedly downloading HDC work units. They'll run for a few seconds and then connect to the server for another. The first machine to do this eventually stopped trying to connect and displayed a message saying that a virus or some other reason was causing the server to crash and not doing any useful work. I ran virus, spyware and adware scans, plus hardware tests, and came up clean. I also uninstalled, then reinstalled the WCG Agent with the same result.

John, it may be the security software itself... did it upgrade the software or libraries just prior to that event? If it recognized the science process as suspicious it would kill it. Mine gives me active warning if i have not set up a new science as a permitted exception.
----------------------------------------What are the makes of firewall / antivir ? read on other forum last week that CA 2007 was having issues with the UD agent....CA fixed it in a very short time. cheers

Yes, John, I have exactly the same problem. Moreover, it happened during the night, so I think it couldn´t have been caused by any change in my computer settings.
Other projects (genome comparison) seem to work fine. |

Glad to hear it isn't just me.
Didn't think it could be considering it was happening on multiple machines. Hopefully, someone from WCG will look into it. In the meantime, I'll switch to the new genome project to try it out. Cheers. |

Opened a thread on the CA forum to draw attention.
----------------------------------------Is this all UD agent or BOiNC? If BOiNC, do u have WU numbers. Also, what is the predicted completion time compared to previous work units.... like my current once are all predicted to be 4 hours up, a few new once in the Work buffer are just 2 hours. thx

It's in the ud agent.
Virus program doesn't come into play as I use online scans only. Don't like to slow down my machines with big anti virus programs. Just did a complete scan to confirm that wasn't a factor. |

It's far fetched, but what exactly is this 'online scanning' doing. Do i understand correctly, that it is some sort of internet service.....wonder if they mangle the files during transmission....as said far fetched.

An online virus scan doesn't require a computer to have it's own antivirus program. The engine and updated virus signature files are downloaded for onetime use and then deleted from a temp file. It's very efficient and, as I said, allows the pc to run without being bogged down by bloated security suites. The one I use is Panda Anti Virus by way of PCPitstop.

I´m using the UD agent, and have a standard antivirus program.
