Re: Hi.........how does one boinc on one core only???

Limit it to one processor in your preferences.

knreed seems to indicate there may be a problem currently with BOINC getting preferences from the server, so double check that the new preferences have downloaded correctly.

Re: Hi.........how does one boinc on one core only???

My Grid - Device Manager - Device Profiles, select a profile such as Home, then look under Advanced Options - Processor Usage for 'On multiprocessors, at most use: 4 processors' This is a dangerous default that could get 4 threads running on a dual core Pentium 4 with hyperthreading, really eating up memory. Change it to 1.

Re: Hi.........how does one boinc on one core only???

Set it to 1, saved it, closed and re-opened boinc...........and it proceeded to run two threads.
Nevermind..........will switch it to a single core rig smile

Re: Hi.........how does one boinc on one core only???

Restarting BOINC won't make it pick up new preferences. You need to update the project.

Go to the project tab in BOINC Manager, select WCG, then click "Update". Then check the messages tab. It should tell you it has downloaded new preferences.
