I have been on the grid since Aug./06, and have had many successful programs run on my computer. However, these were the program searching for Aids medications. I am not a scientist so be kind to me. I am now running the program for Human Proteome Folding, and I suspect something is wrong with this particular one running on my machine. It shows a status of 100% done and has been for the last two or more hours. The previous programs would finish and transfer data. since I can't get at the program I have no way of attemping to fix it.
Thanks for your help. |

Hello FrankBrev,
This is the first report of this problem. Perhaps more such reports will be made tomorrow. But since this is the first problem reported for the new release of HPF2, lets experiment. The work file should contain the results that need to be sent back. To ensure that it is properly closed, right click on the WCG icon in your systray and select Exit. Once the client has shut down, reboot your computer. Sometimes computers get into a strange state while running and a reboot cures the problem. Lawrence |

Thank you Lawrence. I have done what you suggested, and I now have a new program starting up, 0% done. I did not receive any credit (points) for the one which seemd to be hung up. Not the end of the world.

Hi FrankDev,
----------------------------------------It's a really unfortunate thing that the UD agent has no logs that could help a client to check on states or verify on a Results Status page what the outcome was. If u convert to BOINC, u get a lot of that and u would be able to see if the result ended up in error, invalid, inconclusive and check a little file for any extraordinary messages. There is a conversion route available. Here 2 links: 1. The UD / BOINC Comparison: http://www.wcgwiki.org/en/which_agent/agents_101.cfm 2. The Migration Path: http://www.wcgwiki.org/en/boinc/migration.cfm If u have a dual/quad core CPU, your machine(s) can put away double or more of work. BOINC now makes up 33% of production, that's up from 15% when i converted 6 months ago in April. Nice thing about BOINC is, that on lower spec machines it somehow is able to do FAAH work, when under the UD agent it is not. BOINC is about to get a socalled Simplified Graphical User Interface similar to the UD Agent, but with ability to set many of your scheduling/resource preferences locally, rather than on the website. cheers (phew....should have been a salesmen)

I know it's too late now, but do you recall if the application was still taking up 100% CPU while it was sitting at 100% complete?

Hi Rick
----------------------------------------See what you're saying.... progress indicator at 100%, but the calculation not really finished..... had it once for a long time, but process was just trundling along at a lowish number...finished in the end....several hours. The CPU counter in BOINC was just skipping a few seconds every once in a while. The other question then to ask is also if the wall-clock counter in the UD agent was still running. cheers

Hi Sekerob
Thanks to you writing this I've switched to BOINC this morning. You are dead right about it running FAAH when UD wouldn't. It's working already yet nothing happened with UD for months. It's 450MHz & 128MB of RAM but it'll get there. |

Rick,
Thanks for the attempt to help, but as you indicated it is probably too late now. Unfortunately I did not notice whether or not the program was using 100% of the CPU while indicating that it was 100% complete. I followed the suggestion by Lawrence, exited and rebooted. This removed the program which had supposedly completed running, and a new one started. However, I received no credits for the problem program. Thanks for your help. Frank |

We haven't seen this yet. If this happens again, can you please provide your device ID and the time it was working on the workunit so we can track down and check it on our end.

I am experiencing the same problem with the UD agent (stuck at 100% for several hours):
----------------------------------------Member name: esoteric17 device name: we45dfa35gh3476 Time stuck on WU: I noticed it at around 9:00AM, CST. It's now 1:00PM CST and still stuck at 100%. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 10, 2006 7:01:02 PM] |
