A possible FightAIDS@Home project (Fight the HIV's Vif protein)?

It's known that a human protein, the APOBEC3G, would naturally neutralize the HIV infection if a HIV protein called Vif wouldn't neutralize APOBEC3G (see the whole explanation at http://www.amfar.org/cgi-bin/iowa/td/feature/record.html?record=118 ).

I thought this would be a good idea: to find, through FightAIDS@Home, the best way to neutralize such Vif protein and set APOBEC3G free.

This sounds good, I'm wondering why no one else has responded yet?

Currently we are focused solely on HIV-Protease - we could still explore future phases with HIV-Protease (and more if we used different chemical databases)

Beyond that, there are a number of other protein targets including (but not limited to):

HIV Integrase, HIV gp41, Deoxyhypusine Synthase, HIV gp120, Rab9 GTPase, and Nef protein

Haven't heard of the one you mentioned but it is certainly an interesting prospect! smile

Many hits on Google for this and even a Wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APOBEC3G

Research can only build on prior research, thus as we complete this project, phase 2 foreseeably in early February 07, new knowledge will have been gained to decide on the next best course of action... phase 3 maybe.... it all depends on whether a strategy has or can be developed to attack it in the mass Distributed Computing environment.

thanks for sharing this
