Are you using Catalyst to control your card? If so, which version?

I'm using catalyst 2013.0328
----------------------------------------Had to downclock the card because it was getting too hot. Running 900 mhz on both core and memory, stock is 1100. Also tried attaching my 7670m GPU from the new laptop, and it came back with an error because apaprently it doesn't have double precision capabilities, so that one's a no go. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by ryan222h at Jul 27, 2013 7:36:40 PM] |

I guess I was looking for a number more along the line of 12.X or 13.X
Anyhow, much of your excess heat was coming from the memory, you can seriously underclock it to run MW if you wish. Let me know if you want to hear how. Very few, if any, of the mobility cards have the DP necessary for Milky Way, but they will run Collatz just fine. |

Its catalyst 13.4. As far as underclocking, is it just a matter of doing it in catalyst control center's performance tab, or is there more to it?

There is more to it than simply choosing the lowest setting in Catalyst, you can tinker and force Catalyst to let you go lower. Here is how:
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! Stop Boinc and close Catalyst Unhide your files/folders Go to C: users/'username'/appdata/local/ATI/ACE/Profiles Find the profile you are using and open it in notepad. Scroll down and you will find a line that begins: MemoryClockTarget_PCI_VEN_ Beneath that line you will see something like this: <Property name=”Want_0” value=XXXXX”/> <Property name=”Want_1” value=XXXXX”/> <Property name=”Want_2” value=XXXXX”/> Whatever those values for XXXXX are, change them to your desired underclock speed times 10. For example, if you want to underclock your memory speed to 500MHz, change all three values to 50000. Change nothing else in the profile. Save and close the file. Start Catalyst. Go to the AMD Overdrive section. Select the profile you just finished editing. Your GPU and memory clock speed sliders are now on the main screen. Your memory clock slider should now be able to go down to the lowest setting you changed in the profile, /10 MHz. Move the slider to the desired setting and press Apply. Start Boinc. I have used this procedure for Catalysts 12.X and it has always worked for me. |

My catalyst control center's performance tab lets me go down to 150 mhz already, I never had to change those numbers manually.
----------------------------------------However, I went ahead and followed the steps to the tee anyway. The temps are still to high, and GPU-Z is reporting that even though the currently selected profile is set to 300mhz, the actual performance level is 1250mhz. I have pretty much concluded that my graphics card is locked when it comes to changing memory speed and core voltages. ![]() |

Joe, there's a WCG challenge coming up called "August Race 2013". Would you care to join us in it? Its an all-project runtime challenge.
----------------------------------------There's also one called "small team race - August 2013", which starts today actually and is a points generated challenge. Either one is fine. I'm always up for a little friendly competition :) ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ryan222h at Jul 29, 2013 3:22:56 PM] |

Minnesota Crunchers came in at #8 in the Milky Way Challenge with 1.6 million Boinc credits. We kept the team name on the front page for all to see. Well done everyone!
