Just a suggestion Sgt. Joe, you might try downloading a copy of the 64 bit Linux distro you are using and burning it to DVD after doing a md5 check. Or you could buy a copy from On-Disk in Michigan. I did that with the Linux 14 Mint Cinnamon version and its been a breeze to set up. I don't think it took me even 45 minutes to install on my HP workstation and put BOINC and WCG on. I have seen about a 1-1.5 hour decrease in the time it took Linux 64 bit machine to process the GFAM, SNS, and DFSL WU's. CEP I see about an hour decrease too. I did use a downloaded iso image of Linux Mint 14 to install the OS. I agree the initial set up is pretty easy. The problem came with the updates. Without the updates the wireless is flaky, but with the updates the connectivity is much better. I was trying to do the updates wirelessly and it kept timing out. So I moved the system to a place where I could connect by ethernet directly to my router and then the updating process went smoothly. Once all of the updates were in place I moved it back to its previous location and the wireless connection is mostly reliable. My set up at that location involves 6 machines all hooked to a KVM switch with the ethernet connected to an 8 port switch which is connected to a linksys range extender which connects to my wireless router which is connected to my ISP's modem. Not the most elegant solution, but it mostly works most of the time. About every 2 or 3 days I need to reboot the range extender, but I do not know why it will suddenly lose connectivity. Thanks for stopping by. I need all the help I can get with Linux and your input is appreciated. Cheers
Sgt. Joe

How good is AMD support for mint? Would like to get off windows for my dually but want to make sure support for GPU's is there for possible up coming projects. Also, does mint dual boot similar to ubuntu?

Also, does mint dual boot similar to ubuntu? I know Mint will dual boot, I have it on a laptop with Vista. Mint is an offshoot of UBUNTU and uses its repositories. I presume it will work just fine with an AMD cpu, but I am totally ignorant of how it might work with an AMD GPU. Cheers

Also, does mint dual boot similar to ubuntu? I have Mint in dual boot with XP. Doing that I found that Mint became the default boot OS. I finally found a way to change that and now XP is #1. I did try to get AMD drivers to install but didn't play with it that much. Now that the WCG GPU app is done I'll play with it some more.I did manage to get Nvidia drivers installed and running. I'm now running CEP2 on Mint while also running GPU grid. I'm still trying to get the CPU/GPU sensors to work so I can tell how hot everything is running. No love there yet so far. ![]()

It looks like all of the fun is over! No more GPU. I have dropped from 4,691,915 per day on 5/2 when I still had a full cache of GPU WUs, to 518,081 today. The GPU processing got me over 1 Billion points, and number 26 world wide, and helped the team significantly between me and Ryan's GPUs. I thought I would quickly drop in rank, but it looks like all of the people that were going to pass me, had more GPU than me. I will probably now do about 500k per day, until the next GPU project. Hopefully the teams rank will not suffer.

It looks like all of the fun is over! No more GPU. Ain't that the truth. I am back to being an average joe now with only around 100k ppd from cpu. Would like to see FAAH and CEP2 get finished, so I'm hitting those hard now. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ryan222h at May 11, 2013 4:20:42 AM] |

I am hoping I can get to that level and stay there on a consistent basis. Even though there is no GPU project right now, my guess is there will be in the not so distant future because the results are just too compelling to ignore for any length of time. Thanks to all who made a great effort with their crunching. Cheers

I see we have passed a milestone this evening. We have returned our 6 millionth result. And I missed it a few nights ago when we passed 1500 total years. A fine job by all. Keep on crunching.

Hello fellows
----------------------------------------![]() Might have some new pics to my webpage on autumn. My last ones where too identical with previous ones, so did need to change seed to another general DIY-flower field type. This time I quite obviously have three different plant on my windowsill. Did change rockwool to peat also. Last one hold a lot more water so was able to get rid of NTF-consept and use very simple passivehydro. Peat also has this very mild most pleasure odor, like toffy or something ![]() On very top there is middle size jiffy's pellets, ones under those are giant (2'' / 50mm) ones. Kind of add new layer when root has come out of bottom. Well tiny one seems to be comfy with lesser, but for sake of symmetry. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ultimaThule at May 13, 2013 8:34:17 AM] |
