It is no wonder you are so wet - you have training thunderstorms.
----------------------------------------![]() Another cool and dank day here - cloudy and 53F(12C). Still March and April weather. Cheers

Nobody wants to have flooding, flash or otherwise happen due to a deluge of rain on already soaked ground. I purposely used training in the teaching sense rather than the vehicles which run on rails sense. I apologize if the pun went awry.

Not to worry, Sgt Joe! :) When I first heard the phrase "training thunderstorms," the picture that popped into my mind was troops of storms marching back and forth in formation -- much sillier than your pun! People here are getting nervous about whether this could be another year like 2008. Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Coralville are still rebuilding from the floods that year. No one died, but lots of people lost their homes, and the university and local businesses had millions of dollars in damage. My husband and I were very lucky that our home is a half mile away from the part of Coralville that was underwater for weeks. I had to work from home for weeks because all the bridges across the Iowa River between Coralville and Iowa City were impassable. I don't think this year is going to come close to that -- hope that's right! ![]() |

I don't think this year is going to come close to that -- hope that's right! I have been watching the weather in Iowa. You have been getting blasted with rain constantly. Wettest average May ever I guess for the state as a whole. I finally got the rest of my garden in, the purple potatoes and pumpkins and squash in between rains. Now we wait to see what will grow besides weeds. I am done picking asparagus for the year. The rhubarb was late, but now is almost ready to start getting picked. There was a significant amount of winterkill in the grass and on my pine trees. The grass will take care of itself eventually and I have several days of trimming on the trees. The one thing the winter was good for was the ticks. This is the worst year I have experienced for the little pests, both wood ticks and deer ticks. At least they are mostly gone by the beginning of July. Cheers

I can hardly complain about our weather after what has been happening in Oklahoma!
----------------------------------------We're having moderate flooding in Iowa City/Coralville now, and there's a pretty good chance that it will get worse mid-next-week. I'll go tomorrow to help fill sandbags. It's funny -- as bad as the floods were in 2008, I have very fond memories of people of all ages and walks of life working side by side to fill, move, and place sandbags. ![]() |

Living on protected hill is nice about view and everything, but it also create lot possibilities crack some nuts. Yes did drop myself few yards on Saturday morning. Drop itself was not so fatal but when landing on sharp rocks, you know, might as well land to landmine. Did not loose any bones or gain internal bleedings, but sure looks like been hit with shotgun, with wolfpellets, with few times. Half of my head is kind of black, 95% bruses but did get some cuts too. Lost piece of tongue but not any dental damage. Both arms kind of shopped meat what comes to skin. Left leg, knee to be more exact did take deepest cut, I think I will spare more details. When get back from hospital all my flowers where simply died on those peat beds, those just cannot carry water even for one day. Crappy ![]() ![]() |

Crappy ![]() Sorry to hear you had a bad accident and ended up in the hospital. I am guessing you might have had to have some stitches to close things. Sounds like you will have some scars as souvenirs of this escapade - not to be repeated we hope. Like any plant optimist, replant and try again. Rained again this morning and probably will rain more in the afternoon. High will be about 52F(11C) to day. Did check and some of the potatoes are now up so they will need to be mulched when it dries out. Have at least one volunteer squash or pumpkin out, but it is in the middle of the potatoes so I will move it later. After the rest of the squash and pumpkins emerge I will till all the weed seedlings down. Cheers

OUCH. Get well soon. If it keeps raining, will need a boat to get around. Thnks. Quite sad story I think. I actually did escape from hospital on Saturday evening when MRI show that I did not have any internal bleeding. I mean that I was suppose to sleep on same room with members of some criminal gang members, so I did make clear that they need to make some helluva effort to try keep me there. After signing some legal documents they "let" me walk out. Normally avoid bars, but now considered that it is not right time to be sober. I can remember that I was not able to get in first one, I mean I literally was on bleeding bandages. Third place let me in and have not memories after that what so ever. But there I was on Monday on office like nothing had happened. So. 1. With highest possible taxation on this planet, you can create public services good enough for Africans, but some one like Russians would never ever spend nigh on Finnish public hospital. 2. I really do not have a life and I'm calvinist. 3. I do no not know why I'm laughing like there is no tomorrow when typing this ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ultimaThule at Jun 4, 2013 10:56:51 PM] |
