Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Joe, any luck finding another processor?

Not just yet. I can get the chip for under $35, but I also need a 1U heat sink - no fan. I have found one combination for $50. I know a guy who may have an extra one, so I will talk to him first, then decide if I want to spend the $50. I think, if he wishes to part with it, I may get the combination for $25 to $30. I will probably get a hold of him tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Found one on E-Bay. Comes with a 1U heatsink. Should be here in a couple of days. The guy locally who had one did not want to part with his.

Cheers

Enjoy learning on that machine. It should be fun. What processor(s) do you have in it ? Let us know how it crunches.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Fed-Ex came today, I was excited. I opened the box and I was dejected. It was the right processor, but the 1U heat sink was for an HP. It is waaaaaay too wide for the Dell. I had to start making arrangements to return it. Rats, rats, rats !! Back to the drawing board to find the proper processor and the right size heat sink.

BTW - Nice totals Bearcat smile
Cheers

Bummer. Good luck on the hunt. Maybe you can get lucky and snag a pair of higher chips. I used to run the 2.5 ghz ones. Not much more juice to run them.
Looks to be another good day for points. This morning stats show 100000 points already. Should thin out my PV jail. biggrin
