Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Today the annual Midwest Firefighters Winter Water Fights were held in the park near our home. Firefighters from different towns have teams, and the competition is to try to use water from firehoses to push a barrel suspended on a wire down to the opposing team's end.

The weather was great for such an outdoor event -- high around 40 and sunny.

I bet that is a great event at about -20F laughing

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Hello fellows,

finally some air here, unfortunately been drowning to my jobs lately so have had not much time to notice it.

Joe,
here is some pics about my grass.
Ones on bluelight seems to grow kind of mat schema, they create large leaves and do not try to get high, very horizontal grow.
Ones under redlight, seem to grow directly up and creating very small leaves...

Actually like those on redlight side more, those are lot more nicer to my eye as decorative objectives.
I notice that there is 70W HPS lamps , probably will get one on next winter.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Hello fellows.

some prolez -stories from latest North...

I notice that this outsourcing stuff can create sometimes interesting time schedules.
Whit this I mean:

1. Company who need to have hole on ground.
2. Company who can provide manpower to dig too deep hole regarding its width (a.k.a lost few man time to time mysteriously).
3. Company who can provide dudes to told 2. when to stop digging vertically and start to do same stuff horizontally.

1. Hires group & dude
2. Provides group
3. Provides dude

Salary is:
Weekdays x 1
Saturdays x 1,5 -2
Sundays x 3-5

So company 2. does not provide group for normal hours, a.k.a. 7,5h per day for every day for week.
Instead they will provide two shift for 7,5+7,5 h so they do not need to pay higher salary for Saturdays and Sundays for they crew but get same fee and work sure will be done.

Well everything is fine except that there has been hired only one dude to supervise stuff, so he actually need to do some 2½ shift on those days.
Yes he must, another vise somebody will lost his/hers guinea pig and somebody will eat somebody else playdoh...

Well he cannot really complain.
After all he did receive education for this kind of work culture by government, a.k.a. service his time on message corps.
Basic concept of message center was two officers, two non-commissioned officer and four privates.
In praxis there were something like three privates playing paper/scissors/rocks öbaut who will be two officer..
So he sure did get a lot training how to work/eat/sleep between chair and desk so that nobody cannot say what he is doing for sure...

Sh*t my a*se is numb...
Oih & voih.....

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I had a little trouble following all of that but it seems you are the supervisor dude who is spending much time on the job but that time is doing ZZZZZZZZZZZZ. laughing I used to work a job where I was on call 24 X 7. Thankfully I had a good first line supervisory staff under me, so I did not get called too often. But when I did it would be a thorny problem.

I see now Europe is having much winter with massive amounts of snow in Serbia and Siberian cold in eastern Europe - Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine etc. Seems like the Finland weather has migrated south. Still warm here in the 30 and 40's F(0 to 5 C). Yesterday was the anniversary of the coldest day in Minnesota, -60F(-51.1C) up in Tower ( a small city up by the Canadian border) in 1996. A big storm is coming, but most of it will be south of us. Maybe the wind will pick up and get rid of the annoying fog that has been here for the last couple of days.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I notice that it is possible to create relatively nice sleeping device from two seated coach and armchair...
I'm six foot six so did need to do some bending, but sure did beat sleeping on chair hundred to one..

Weather sure is nice here. Some -20'C (-4 'F), snow and some wind..
On these days I actually even like Helsinki, because streets are empty..

Took this image on very core, on square behind Main Railwaystation couple of hours ago, and there was not many souls....
Plenty of room to roam around.
Forecast promise more to come for tomorrow love struck

A full 2 meters eh! Not a full skyscraper, but a tall building nonetheless.

I saw an interesting article a couple of weeks ago on the education system in Finland. It seems that by giving uniform opportunity to almost everyone, the success rate of all was raised. The powers that be in the education world here will be studying it to see if any of that success can be translated to work here.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Not sure, but probably need to be fun spoiler...

Finland education system provides highest point on Pisa -test, jaadi jaadi jaa.
But if you go behind numbers, then you can found out that because all those lowest tiers are missing here.
A.k.a. everybody learn to read, math and few language.
On another hand, all those top -tiers are also missing...

European systems generally produce lot dull pencils, but those also create something that local system cannot do, they will produce also those most sharpest pencils..

These grading systems will give grade on basing quantity, so I think it is main reason why Finland leads on these markets.

Good or bad, not mood for politics so much any more.
For sure I can say it most probably will water under bridge.
This is simply because this education system was created with Kekkoslovakias incest economy, which did make sure that there was teacher on every garage.
But already there is some east areas on Helsinki where teachers run like there is no tomorrow. And pencils from those areas are kind of broken ones..

Another equal example was Finnish military.
Finland was able to produce one of biggest army on Europe (750 000) when being one of the smallest nation (5 000 000).
This number was get simply counting that every man between 18 - 50 will crap weapon when asked.
But now when people are actually need to be payed with real money, this nation just does not have money to keep old army, latest number is about 200 000.
Also there is consideration about that is there really use for those zeppelin kind of old chaps on modern warfare on subarctic climate.
But it was still one of the biggest armies on Europe as long as you did count quantity. And that is also how they seems to evaluate quality of education..

On future there will be also those lower -tiers, but I'm not sure will be there any of those higher ones..
So my lucky guest is that education system will follow military on this matter and takes it more realistic place.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Nice picture of the snow. Care to send some to Minnesota? The way were going, will need to import some. Our weather here now reminds me of Germany in winter of 93. Not sure how bad this will mess our summer up. Might be a dry summer. Post some more pictures if you have time.

Well hopefully when they study the system they will do so thoroughly and will look behind the numbers.

Bearcat is right. Our little bit of snow is rapidly disappearing. The next coupe of days will be between 40 and 50F(4 to 10C). Drought in summer we do not need.

Cheers
