I'm an American and proud of it. I'm also a mongrel having so many bloodlines that the only thing it could be is red. I admit the America I see emerging today is not the America of my desires. America's spirit is not small but some of it's people have grown small from listening to those that are as wolves in sheeps clothing. We listen too easily to those that would have us look down our nose at another never once questioning our own beginnings or place or grace extended to us as a people.

My America continues to send our sons and daughters into harms way to help those in need, be it from oppression or natural causes. My America does not know race. ethnic background or religion as a quality that determines our desire to help. My America see beyond tomorrow, when all of us are lifting, all of us higher.

I do not know a Black, Red, Indian, Yellow, or any other sub-identifer American. When we bleed we all bleed red. It is wonderful that some have a ethnic backround to draw from and to enrich all of our lives, as long as it is remembered they are now a part of something more than thier own ethnic beginnings.

Can we be terrible -yes, we still believe in the big stick for bullies. We are all diminished when any bully succeeds. We are unique, we are reviled when we stop a bully, and told we are only doing it for our own purposes and reviled again when we pause to listen and don't stop other bullies, we are told we are playing favorites. Those same people that hold us in contempt offer nothing to the down trod but empty words.

Are we always right? No, I wish we were but there is one rule that stays most true. Given a choice between two actions of the heart the one that appears to be the most hard sacrifice, the most costly, over the one that seems easy is the one that should be taken. America has made that hard choice for the benefit of many not of America many many times. I have hope that we will continue to make that hard sacrifice.

We have our internal differences, we quarrel and fuss with each other internally, IT IS OUR DIFFERENCES and our desire to see things better for all that makes us AMERICANS, not our sameness.

Do we have our problems - yes, some make us look selfish, small, and narow minded to others who have no real appreciation that we are a people continually struggling, chellenging ourselves, and others in the process growing, of becoming. I will still take America's problems along with America's promise before almost any other people past, present or future.
