The images of the transmission towers crumpled into scrap heaps up in Canada several years back are the most impressive ones I've see of ice storms, especially the ones where you could see pile after pile off into the distance. A lot of times, running the lines (once the towers are rebuilt) involves using helicopters. Plus, you can't even begin to start restoring service to anyone downline until you have the main distribution line back. Last ice storm here, there was a transmission line down and that one line alone took out an entire county. Still, I'm amazed at the news of ice four inches thick out in the plains. Usually, you start losing things at half an inch.

Re: The 55,000+ (f.k.a. 50,000+) CPU Days Per Day Thread

I got smart, got in the car, found a work crew from the elec company, asked if they'd eaten, they hadn't, came back 20 minutes later with hot subs and drinks for them.
30 minutes later my power was on..Best $17.85 I've even spent..

There you go Sek it was worth waiting up for - a new World Community Grid run time record of

152 years 17 days 10 hours 23 minutes and a whole 42 seconds

applause applause applause applause applause applause applause applause

that's 55,497 PC days in a day !

So far since Saturday

707 years 79 days 23 hours and 54 Mins

Just (Just he says again) 292 years 285 days and 6 Minutes from Thursday and Friday and Millennium week will be in the bag

146 Years 143 days each day

Do you think we can do it?

Nice one.

I remember drooling at the thought of getting a Barton.
They were monsters in their time.
As to the weather..Get a rainstorm at 33-34F during the day and have the temps drop to 25F or less that night..Instant frozen everything.
Have the next few days not get above 25F and you get the idea..permanent ice. Thats what we were looking at..Tomorrow it's supposed to go above 32F and things will melt.

Re: The 55,000+ (f.k.a. 50,000+) CPU Days Per Day Thread

So Dave, will it be Good ol' Wednesday then in the future?

But likely, the revenge of the iced over crunchers, flushing when the power came back.... those pictures are just a foreboding of 'the day after tomorrow'.

Enjoy the day, for there might not be a tomorrow

have a good one
