Hmmmm...

I'm nearly 15 hours into the next work unit on this machine, now. I guess I'll have to wait for the next statistics refresh to be sure, but it looks like "the killer" was completed in something over 314 hours, and generated perhaps as many as 4779 points. The last 16% only took around 8 hours!

Crunch on, Dudes!

14 days and 1 second (336 hours), generating 4779 points. That duration is a curious number, particularly since I expected this work unit to run longer. I wonder if there is something "magic" about 14 days of execution, causing termination.

Well spotted bcelmer

There is a limit on the amount of time a WU can run it's currently set to 2 weeks run time (2 Weeks and a second as you have proved) or 3 weeks clock time. i.e if you switch you PC off at night the clock is still ticking on the 3 weeks to return the Work Unit but not on your 2 weeks run time.

The result data is not lost it is just not complete for that work unit. Given that you have hit the expiry times maybe they need increasing.

Thanks for everyone with a monster work unit sticking in there to the end.

Regards

Dave

I wonder if we will get a large number of semi-completed WUs over the holiday period due to people being given monster WU and also switching computers off.

What happens to the semi-completed WUs ? Are they re-assigned to someone to work on as a whole WU ? After all, it could be the final 1% which could vital in finding an answer.

The current time-outs are 2 weeks of run time or 3 weeks of time since it was delivered to your machine.

The workunits will be issued to several other devices for validation purposes.

Would you please elaborate on this statement? Are all work units assigned to multiple devices (for validation) or only incomplete work units?

I don't understand much of the tech talk, but one of my devices finally returned this WU, which exceeds the 14-day, 1-second mark discussed (my PC is on all of the time, BTW):

12/27/2004 0:014:17:43:06 6,348 points

Cheers!
