Re: BOINC

....I retired my win98 machine...it was contributing a solid 300 pts/day using WCG/UD agent but connectivity got to be such a problem that it just wasn't worth it

It's going to really suck when I get stuck in the pink ...after all my banter .....anytime it takes 2000-3000 pts/day to reach 5th place on a team of 8 contributing members...that ain't bad!!!!!

Re: BOINC

Sound decision. The low yield wasn't worth the electricity.
Still have 2 Win98 pc's but one is on loan to a neighbor and the other is mothballed and not worth upgrading.

Old Systems = Space Heaters

I figure I will let them keep running as long as I have to pay to heat my house, I might as well heat it with the power of processors. smile

The total output from the two of them averaged 1300 points/day over the last 5 days(Rought Split 450/850). Both of them have the power (due to hardware updates) to run XP, but as they are just crunching machines, I refuse to pay to update the OS's, they just get cast offs for updates.

Most importantly I calculate the two of them pump almost 5000 watts of heat a day into my house. Keeping my office nice and warm. wink I reason why pay the funace to heat the house, when you have have a workstations heat your house, and crunch numbers. Come summertime I might shut them down for 6 months, but as it is about -13 degrees, I will keep my heaters running.
