That's the whole point: this option will only kick in if no work is available for any of your checked projects.
Remember, WCG don't guarantee to give equal weight to each of your selected projects. Instead, they balance the whole grid to meet the needs of all the projects. |

has wcg considered a priority option? say i want to run hdc first and foremost, but am willing to do hpf2 as a backup, but not aids or any future to be added project. can that scenario be implemented?

Hello vavega,
----------------------------------------Not at the moment. Something very similar might be available later this year. We are considering implementing a way to select 1 project but crunch any other available WCG project if nothing is available for the preferred project. Right now, it is best to pick a backup project along with HDC. Lawrence Added: hmm, I'm just repeating what knreed has already posted. Vavega, what you are asking for amounts to specialized JCL (Job Control Language) for fully specifying control over the projects downloaded. That is more detailed than anything currently planned that I know of. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 20, 2006 9:41:28 PM] |

I see where Vavega came from in his first post......the 'exempli gratia' is missing in kevin's original explanation just before the only.
----------------------------------------When tinkering with the options how and which machine gets what, i'd prefer for the "My Projects" not to overwrite the individual device profiles of the UD Agent (if one has any)....ticked HDC to be send to the BOINC agent only and low/behold it also got added to the UD device profile, the level below (after i'd already unticked and saved HDC in the UD device profiles)....My UD does one now by mistake, educational, as it does highlight an improvement hotly discussed previously as an omission when HPF2 kicked off. Possibly for the UD side, suggest a user selectable option as in 'add to all devices' to help those that do manage many PC's and in many locations.

The project requirements are surprisingly high. Ordinarily it takes about as much memory as FAAH (under 100 MB) but at intervals it uses another 400+ MB, so the memory requirements are going to be very high - roughly 3/4 GB. The work units are not that big. A typical download for the UD client should run about 1 MB, the uncompressed BOINC download should be about 5 MB. The results upload should only be about 0.1 MB. The web page listing the new requirements had not been updated before I started this post, so we shall see if I have it right or not. How long did a WU need on a 2 GHz Pentium ? How long are the deadlines ? How large are the WU downloads ? Am I right, that now all three WCG projects support Windows, Linux and MacOS on PPC and Intel ? - Are these platforms only by the UD supported, or are the available for boinc, too ? Hello Dotsch,
The UD client only runs on Windows. BOINC supports Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. I do not know if any projects run on Mac OS X x86 native-code yet, or whether they have to run in emulation-mode. I do not have a Mac. |

thank you Didactylos for the clarification.
i was reading it as once that new box was checked and there was no work for my main project, i would be given whatever was out there whether i had it checked/wanted it or not. as long as it gives work based on my preferences i'm happy. she Sekerob, she! well mr. hardin, can we meet halfway? using the KISS principle would it be possible to give us a control over the jobs downloaded using no more than 2 projects and say a choice of % splits. based on availability of course. how about options of 90/10 70/30 50/50? |

Hi vavega,
Right now there is no real user control over percentages of selected WCG projects to run. The server makes that decision. The user selects which projects to run. knreed is putting in an option to run one special project by preference but keep the computer busy when that project is not available. Right now, that only makes sense for HDC, since the other projects have a large backlog of work units. Lawrence |

Here is the latest information about 'Help Defeat Cancer'. bbover3 pointed out these 3 articles which show that NIH, Rutgers University, Ohio State University, the Cancer Institute of New Jersey and IBM are all collaborating to continue developing Dr. Foran's cancer tissue micro-array analysis system. (What a mouthful that phrase is - - and I could have added half a dozen more adjectives trying to describe it.
