Adywebb, i think knreed up above specified that 2gb HD (2000mb) is the required disk space. Not sure what happened to those who HAVE 0.98 specified in their UD device profiles?
----------------------------------------Meantime, at 06:00 UTC already 2060 results had been returned, barely 10 hours after the kick-off.......293 days of work crunched. The UD graphics is revealing and briljantly displays for the laymen what its doing with what seems testing against real life cancer type samples. Again, the Throttle status being added to the display is a boon and surely will put that question.....Will I put my foot down a bit more? keep crunching.

2000 MB Hard Disk Drive with at least 500 MB available for use I think that he is implying that Virtual Memory plus WCG space should be at least 2 GB. Caching work units could increase the required WCG space. A dual core running 2 simultaneous HDC work units under BOINC would definitely call for some more space for larger virtual memory plus would double the WCG requirement for safety. Lawrence |

We have cleaned up the system requirements to be more precise. Please take a look again:

I see that the project is now selected by default over at My Projects, therefore I assume if you are running Boinc, then it will apply to ALL machines regardless of profile - what happens then in the case of where one of the Boinc machines is not of sufficient spec, will it just reject any HDC units and download any of the others you have selected, or will it try to donload the science and then pause/cause problems? If a particular computer does not meet the specifications of the project, then work will not be sent to it (on both BOINC or UD). If you have only selected one project for that computer, then it will simply not get work. If you have opted to allow it to receive work from more then one project then it will receive work from any project for which it meets the system requirements. Is this going to mean that you will have to unselect the HDC project for all your Boinc machines if one of them is under spec, or will you have to run that machine under the UD Agent and select another project? - or worse still run that machine with Boinc under a seperate username? No - simply choose multiple projects. Work appropriate for each machine will be downloaded. Is the forthcoming new version of Boinc, or WCG settings in the future going to allow individual project selection for each Boinc machine? We have plans to provide the ability to customize your project selection at the device profile level for BOINC (similar to what you can do for UD now). We do not have firm dates for the implementation of this at this time. |

knreed,
I like the way you've re-worded the RAM requirement. It could not be more clear. |

I take it this will also mean you are not going to be able to select HDC only if you want work on all your machines, therefore you will have to accept a mixture of WU's from all selected projects on all your Boinc machines. We are going to deploy within the next week an additional option to the 'My Projects' page. This will allow you to select projects like you do now. However, there will be an additional check box which states 'Allow work to be sent from other projects if work cannot be sent for my selected projects'. The way this work is that if you select only HDC and check this new option then each time one of your computers running the BOINC agent connects to the server it will look to see if there are any HDC workunits that it can send that computer. If there, then the computer gets that workunit. If there aren't, then it will randomly send a workunit from another project. This new option will only apply to BOINC. Another question just raised by one of my team members is will the increased HD space required with this project be done automatically, or does it require the profile setting of 'use no more then xxx Gigabytes' to be changed as well, ie if someone has changed the default from 10GB to say 2GB is that going to be adequate? No - we have no way of knowing if a member set that limit for a specific reason. If we changed that limit automatically, then we might cause some problems for that member. |

If there aren't, then it will randomly send a workunit from another project. will this "another project" be from all that's available or just from what we've checked off that we're willing to do? |
