I know this would be an absolute bloody nightmare to implement, maintain and balance but having the points redeemable in some way (not necessarily for things of monetary value e.g. could be custom forum title etc.) would encourage more competition within WCG and being fun could convince people to join up.

It is also extremely difficult (if not impossible) to implement something due to the geographic nature of all the participents.

I like WCG project but:
a) No linux version yet. Most of my friends has Linux.
b) No multiprocessor support. As I read in other article here, only one CPU in multi CPU PCs is used. So, there I several multiprocessor servers in company I work for, but ...
c) No off-line version (or no easy to use off-line version). I have other computer home, but no Internet connection there. I have internet in my work, but I can not (or I do not know how) to get WCG item home on some medium and result beck.
d) I told about WCG project to my friend. He downloads some document from WCG.org and found, thet he must register and said "I hate registration" I answer. Thats nothing only username and password and that's all. He said "It is only begining - I will not register, no way). => Reason is, that there is no unregistered version of WCG.

I joined when it was posted on slashdot at the end of december. Really, I can't find of anything better than posting there, and its already been done. I am proud of my slashdot users team though. After only 10 days or so we became the most productive team. It was a very obvious uptick in the global statistics. Post it to some other big newsgroups and blogs and such and we'll see what kind of response we get. Though i doubt it will be anything near the slashdot effect. :)

As for working offline, there's a solution called udmon. Check another thread started by myself on 2005/01/21, which is currently in the top threads.

Adding links to personal pages and posting to very-high-traffic sites are effective solutions. Like skogs and a couple thousand of other persons, I joined WCG after reading a news about it on Slashdot.
