Hello to everyone! Congrats to YeQS, the 300th cruncher to join MOT! and returning results already!
----------------------------------------Hi Jim, I believe we came very close to Fosters a few weeks ago. I and the family made our annual I-20 run to/from east Texas. At least all the construction projects seem to be done for the present. Orca, think about adding that spare cruncher. I would think you have some sort of meter somewhere for your electrical usage. Take a reading of it one day and the same time the next when you have typical usage. Then run your extra cruncher for a day doing the same before/after readings. While you won't be able to put the readings into money terms, you should be able to compare the amount of electricity usedand have a decent estimate of just how much extra electricity that spare cruncher used. From that, you could extrapolate for a full month. The proportional increase can then be applied to your latest electric bill to estimate how much more running the spare cruncher full time would be. There's been a number of threads about the extra cost of crunching but those seem to deal with crunching on machines that are normally running already. In your case, you'd be running a "new" machine. I'd like to think your brother's estimate was off but this would be a decent way to validate it without running it a whole month and finding out he was right I envy you your public transportation. There's a lot to the cost of owning a car besides gas, and it' not just money. It takes time to keep one properly maintained whether you do it yourself or pay a mechanic to do the work. My 8 year old vehicle has 225000 miles on it and no serious repairs so far, just normal maintenance, but then reliability is a top factor in what I buy. Still, if I could use public transit to go wherever I needed to whenever I needed to, I would. Plus it seems to increase your definition of "in walking distance" so you get more exercise too Congrats to all on your certificates. I hope to be seeing one reasonably soon. While I'm already working on my second 500K points, I'm closing in on my first 100K for MOT ![]() |

Hi Jim, I believe we came very close to Fosters a few weeks ago. I and the family made our annual I-20 run to/from east Texas. When you passed the 63 mile marker in Alabama you were within 3/10ths of a mile from my house. Our exit is 62 though. |
