Human Proteome Folding and the Help Defeat Cancer Project

Please describe the specific research project/achievement that this nominee is being recognized for:

A combined total of 50,000 years of the equivalent of a 3Gflops computer given to Humanitarian research since 16th November 2004

Describe how the research has benefited the field of basic science cancer research

The Human Proteome Folding project has from the Human Genome predicted the shape of the 30,000 Proteins which go to make up the body freely available on a publicly accessible database. The Help Defeat Cancer Project uses the equivalent of 50,000 PC’s each donating 3GFlops that are on 24/7 to examine Tissue Microarrays to determine how to improve the treatment of cancer with earlier and more targeted diagnostic tools.

I am just doing what I can to spread the word about the World Community Grid I'm just Dave Autumns one of the 211,798 crunchers. Christian since about 8pm on Friday the 17th January 1985. A Telecoms Engineer A Husband and also Father of 2 teenage daughters with a wry sense of the absurd which I hope the person reading my submission might share

Hi Spikey I hope so

I think they are still backing grid.org and the Oxford University work but the more people who know about us the more likely we are to pick up other inovative work from other institutions who could use our number crunching power for their cancer research projects. It's not just crunchers we need it's also scientists with a problem we could solve
