"beta" is another word for Microsoft's opinion, "no guarantees expressed or implied". It might work, or might not. It should work, but it may not. You may be one of the first that has actually tried it.
----------------------------------------BOINC is the only version that will take advantage of both sides of a true dual core. The UD interface would only work on half of it. From what you say, VISTA wont let you INSTALL BOINC.
----------------------------------------Pioneering stuff this VISTA BETA - so no one here is likely to be able to help you much. I can only speculate that you need to check any new security settings VISTA has relating to installing programs, and obviously you need to be logged on as an adminitrative user. It is probably the same as when they first issues SP2 for Xp - initially all of the default security settings were too draconian and suddenly nothing worked! With VISTA, Microsoft have obviously gone to town on stopping Malware/Viruses being installed, but heve probably overdone it A quick look at Microsofts page:- http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsvista/appcompat/overvw.mspx tells us that Microsoft is proud of the fact that they have application compatibility sorted like never before (yeah right!), so I would think they would be keen to help you and themselves. What else are Beta users of new products for? ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by Dirk Gently at May 28, 2006 5:02:00 PM] |

I use vista beta 2 and win install wcg dont work.... wcg lost 3.8 ghz (dual core) I am glad to hear that there are some folks that are out there trying to help work things out with VISTA the UD Agent and the BOINC agent. When Microsoft begins distribution of non-beta, it will likely become the default operating system (for better or worse) for many if not most PC users. When that time comes, the work of the intrepid pioneers like yourself will pay off as the rest of the community will not have to deal with the problems like this one. Thanks! |

I there,
I'm a beta tester of Windows Vista, and I'm able to run the client. You need to install as Admin Built-in. Download the World Community Client.exe Right Click on the EXE file. Select "Run as Administrator" Follow the setup instruction Then the client will work fine! Have a nice day! |

I installed WCG without using my BOINC Manager.
----------------------------------------I didn't read this topic before I installed on this computer which runs Vista Beta 2. The first thing I had to do was right-click on World Community Grid Agent in Startup and run it as administrator. To work around that requirement, I changed the Properties of the agent in Program Files to "Run as administrator". Once running, only about 50% of CPU was being used (Barton core AMD socket A processor). Although I had not throttled it in the past, I made an entry in System variables to run at 100%. It continued to run at 50% with most of the rest being System Idle Process. I restarted the computer. Upon restarting, I had to grant permission for the client to run. It now runs at 100%, but granting permission for WCG to run is an inconvenience. Since I have run another project on BOINC, I exited WCG at the SysTray Icon and added WCG with the BOINC manager. It runs without any problems. Removing WCG and will continue to run it on BOINC. |

Have u noticed the web being slow......watch out for Bill "We will Assimilate u" G.......every internet DNS call Vista makes is doubled, because it first checks if IPv6 is available (of course not), then IPv4, rather then ad-interim the inverse.......the experts are not agreeing, but Vista in large roll out is predicted to cause the DNS Server system to grind to a near halt.
----------------------------------------signed Displeased PS, Vester reporting 50%...is that not the ol single core issue for UD Agent?

It won't be the first time that Microsoft will have achieved this. When Windows XP first came out the DNS servers were overwhelmed by XP machines all busily trying to register their address to DNS servers - a rather pointless default feature... |
