I don't know if you are old enough to remember, LT, but thankfully the technology and human skills behind this type of operation have developed at an astonishing rate over the last 20 years. By this I mean not only the miraculous gadgetry used in the operation itself, but they way the anaesthetic is administered right through to the machines that go 'bing' in the ITU/ICU. Your Mum is in great hands - with her improved heart function she will feel much younger and be able to nag at you for years to come! Yes Matt I'm old enough to know.lol Only going to be 42 next month  lolIt is Friday afternoon here in Georgia and my mom is out of surgery! Everything went very well, and I mean very well!! She was awake about 11 am. Knew we were all there, and then she went to sleep. They are looking to send her home on Wednesday if she has no complications. So as more info comes in over the next few days I will let you all know how she is doing. Once again thank you all for your kind words!!!!! |

My mother has the same surgery about six months ago - here in Atlanta too. The surgeons treat that as the cardiac equivalent of an appendectomy these days. It certainly feels a bit different when you're on the receiving end though. They had my mom done in 2.5 hours. If she's having it done at Emory or St. Joe's, she'll be in good hands. Both hospitals have excellent reps for cardiac care. Your right Keithhenry. Only took about 3 1/2 hours total with prep and all. Done at St. Joes by Dr. Murphy!! The staff there treat everyone like kings and queens!! Fantastic job Very nice people at St. Joes!!!! |
