Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

Thanks Sekerob

I'd forgotten that the new version of BOINC doesn't use port 1043 anymore. It uses port 31416 to communicate between Boinc.exe and Boincmgr.exe.

Although I haven't had to do this myself, how to you add Rosetta and Faah to the exceptions table ???? (I find that the executable name changes for each unit that is crunched.)

Regards

Slug

Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

Lazy Slug, the science projects have no EXE extension and are a constant (In Windows). The program does something, which my Firewall (SKPF) interprets as code injection. Browse to the BOINC projects dir (C:\Programmi\BOINC\projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org) and use *.* then select "rosetta_4.22_windows_intelx86" & wcg_faah_autodock_5.09_windows_intelx86, e presto cool

BTW, from what i recollect on UD agent, the science part was a constant too, for as long as the HPF's came out of the same batch.

Now watch out for thoses mamma's that are tempted to use pinches of salt. I'm going to bed laughing

Morning Sekerob,
Now watch out for thoses mamma's that are tempted to use pinches of salt. I'm going to bed

Well, you're more awake than me! I was just being and idiot and mixing up what is shown in BOINC manager (The unit name being crunched) and the Windows Task Manager (The ACTUAL executable) blushing

I must drink more beer before writing any posts biggrin

Cheers !!!

Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

Evening All,

Just thought I'd mention that I've finished a new version of the MST creator that allows you to deploy as many BOINC projects as you like.

(Sorry, that is has taken a while - had quite a few hardware problems of late crying and THE World Cup was on biggrin )

The instructions and download can be found at http://www.thelazyslug.com/boinc.htm (Corrected)

I'd be grateful if one of the forum admins could update the FAQs

Cheers Slug

Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

Wow, wat a great website! Really detailed and all the information you need is there. I think I'm going to try and update the BOINC clients in a while.

This site should be included in the standard FAQ for BOINC I reckon. cool

Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

Hmm, I tried setting this up for rosetta (sorry) but it didn't seem to work. I made it simply as an install package with the transform (didn't want to upgrade the service pack for the group management) and set the permissions only to that authority group. It installed only on those, but It won't let me open up the local boinc manager, and i can't connect remotely (maybe because of firewall) but I don't see it crunching. The client state has no proxy, which WAS set in the .hta file when I generated the transform.

It installs as a service, but I can't connect with manager and it doesn't seem to be using network / cpu (except it looks like it runs the benchmark)
Any ideas?

Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

Hi Slug,

Everything is still working quite well, but I still have the "first" version of the MST, so I have no options in providing or denying access for users to the local BOINC folder.
So can I manually deny access to C:\Program Files\BOINC for some pc's?
And is it possible to manually set a password for BOINC manager?

No problem if I have to do it locally, I have access to the pc.

Thanks in advance! cool

Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

At some point in the previous millennium the use of a $ sign in the name of a directory could hide it unless u knew to type it in.....dont know if that disables BOINC.
