Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

Hi michalsx,

The script should work fine, however, there is a minor bug. I will be uploading a correction later today/tomorrow morning. (I've tested it on a couple of PCs)

I have been trying to keep an eye on the BOINC team developements so that any fixes required to the script would be ready ASAP, but you can never be sure.

As a general rule minor version updates should work with an existing mst (The 4 in version 5.4.9 indicates that this is a minor version update) Just for your info, the final digits are the build number and the mst will work with that 99% of the time.

I'll post an update when the new script is uploaded.

Personally, I'll wait a week or two before deploying across my network, but I will be installing it on my test PC.

And by the way, your PCs will only have to stop crunching for less than 1 minute!! biggrin

UPDATE

The debugged script can be found http://www.thelazyslug.com/downloads/WCG_BOINC_MST_Creator.hta

Just for your info, the option to select a Device Option has been removed as when a client PC is registered, it will end up with the default profile anyway.

Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

Good work! biggrin All my devices are still running perfectly thanks to your explanation! cool Thanks again!

Only a few minor things:
- If I remove a device from the security group, the BOINC client doesn't uninstall from the machine. Is this normal? (not that I need to remove any)
- I still can't connect to other machines using the server-client. Hopefully AMS will be implemented soon and I can do this using the BAM-tool at www.boincstats.com

Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

Hi Slug,

I tried script this morning with new version and it seems to be O.K. I tested it on one PC, tomorrow I will try to install it on next 4 computers and I will wait.

Bug? What bug? Do not scary me! wink

Thanks for information.

Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

Hi Slug, I think I had small problem with cache in IE. I didn't see last messages.

New script is better, as usually wink

But let me ask you something. If you modify script that we will be able attach files like:

account_boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta.xml
account_climateprediction.net.xml
account_predictor.scripps.edu.xml
account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml

into installation than we will get universal script for all BOINC clients (Windows). You could give this script to http://boinc.berkeley.edu/.

May be it could help to more people (not only us).

Thanks for your job wink

Morning depriens

Yep, that is normal. Only if you delete the BOINC software from the policy and select to uninstall it when prompted, do you remove it.
I still can't connect to other machines using the server-client

It's probably a firewall problem. Can you check on your workstation that that there is an exception for BOINC?

Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

Morning michalsx

I'm trying to get around to building a small website that will have detailed instructions on using the mst, however, I had far less time than I hoped at the moment. With a bit of luck, it should be finished in a week. (Having my own website seems to make more sense as the script may require modifications as BOINC developes.)

Once the site is completed for the WCG, I'll then look at including other projects.

You'll just have to deploy and crunch WCG units 100% of the time for the moment wink

Regards

Slug

Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

google pages is the easiest website creation / hosting i have ever seen, is free, gives 100mb space, all you need is a gmail account free and off you go, no need for HTML edit inf skills, ( downside is this limits what you can do) but for simple text posting is a breeze, also to upload file s etc is so easy , bit of a plug for google i guess but as websites can be useful then users might want to do their own BTW mine is ultra basic as i have only put in a small amount of time and am basically playing with it. my main site is hosted by my ISP but i link to my google site. i am not recommending my site just the google pages as way of doing your own site

Hi, no, there were no exceptions. So I added boincmgr.exe to the exceptions, but it still doesn't connect. Maybe I should add a port to the exception?

Re: Automating the deployment of BOINC Agent.

Don't know how your boxes are connected, but in my WiFi case had to add # 31416 to the port forwarding table of the router and some triggering rule. Also to forego any conflict, added BoincMgr.exe AND Boinc.exe (that's what Lazy Slug wrote), the Rosetta and Faah science projects to the firewall exception table. Also in some other thread, is your RPC Service active (not the port 135, but the channel from front to back end)....had an issue there too....improbable, but eventually one tries everything when hitting the wall.

PS Nu weten we waarom je geen tijd hebt biggrin
