![]() ![]() ![]() I really thought this would be the solution, but there is no change at all. I also checked the eventlog of the workstation and there is no mention about BOINC at all. Maybe I should wait till I am actually IN the office. Maybe this makes a difference. But again, thank you very much for all the effort! I really appreciate that! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi michalsx
Your welcome. Hopefully it will mean that more small networks deploy BOINC for WCG. (Providing depriens gets his deployment sorted out, it might be worth re writing this topic for the FAQs) Snapshot repackaging certainly has its place, but with more and more software packages now being in the MSI format (and some updates being provided at MSPs), it is certainly worth investigating using an MST before going down the repacking path. Just for your info (and a bit off topic, I know) but if you notice that some of your standard PC applications are MSIs (Adobe Reader, Java, MSN Messenger, etc ), lookup it up at www.appdeploy.com. You can often use Orca to create an MST to deploy it as you would like. Are there any other options you think the script should have? |

Hi Lazy, I think your manual cool.
I use MSI for Symantec Antivirus, Adobe Acrobat and so on. But I didn't know about this page www.appdeploy.com. I will check it and I think I will have things to study and grow ![]() I think I miss ONLY one option. I am not sure, if it is possible, but I would like set rights on instalation directory (C:\Program Files\BOINC) only for SYSTEM (if it is working as service SYSTEM LOCAL ACCOUNT) and DOMAIN ADMINS. What do you think? |

Afternoon depriens,
----------------------------------------Two things I would like you to check. 1. Open Active directory on your server. Nativate to MYDOMAIN.Local > MyBusiness > Computers > SBSComputers. Is the computer that you are trying to deploy BOINC to listed there ? If it is, can you check that it is a member of the Security Group that you created in my previous instructions. (Did you change it back to a security group from a distribution one?) 2. On the computer you are deploying to, can you navigate to \\YOUR_SERVER_NAME\ClientApps. (The easiest way is to use Start > Run and put \\YOUR_SERVER_NAME\ClientApps in the textbox) Regards Slug [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 27, 2006 12:40:21 PM] |

Hi michalsx,
You're quite right on the permissions. The MST should apply 'SYSTEM' and 'Administrators' priviledges to the BOINC installation folder when installing as a service under the LOCAL SYSTEM account. I've now corrected it and the file is available for downloading here (Same location as before). Many thanks for the input. Regards Slug. |

I found it and changed it in your script by myself You'll be writing you own MST scripts in no time ![]() I'll update the script and interface when I get a moment so that you can pick what sort of access you want to the BOINC installation folder Regards Slug |

Hi The lazy slug,
----------------------------------------1. There are no computers in MYDOMAIN.Local > MyBusiness > Computers > SBSComputers. All our computers are in MYDOMAIN.Local > Computers. Is this wrong?? Hope this proves to be the problem and we can solve it! ![]() I checked and the computer in MYDOMAIN.Local > Computers is member of the security group we created earlier, I changed it back to security group already, thanks! 2. Yes, I can navigate to \\SERVER\clientapps from the workstation. Thanks again! ![]() ![]() |

Evening depriens
There are no computers in MYDOMAIN.Local > MyBusiness > Computers > SBSComputers Looks like whoever set up your server didn't use the SBS Wizards to create the computer accounts. Move all of them to the SBSComputers folder and you should find that BOINC will install (Don't move your server from Domain Controllers). You might want to check your user accounts whilst you're at it (And the groups they are members of) In the Server Management list of options, everything above 'Advanced options' usually has wizards to help you complete a lot of different tasks. It is best to use these wizards as they do a lot of things 'behind the scenes' (Even if you know a lot about managing servers, SBS is a special beast !!!! ) Hope this sorts you out Regards Slug |
