Re: BOINC - it's here!

It is an old machine a PIII eith 856 MHz with only 256 SDRam, as it is its first one I think Boinc will have to do a few more to get the timing right.

Don't be disappointed by what the estimated time for a workunit is. Even when I look at the time I'm seeing 17 to 18 hours for these WU's but like I said it's been taking 10 to 10:45 per WU and that's very reasonable considering how valuable this information is to the scientists who will get the results of our crunching. I'm just about to put another machine (a Pentium III 750mHz w/256 meg of ram) on this project. IF you have Windows 2000 or WinXP, I think you will find that you get a faster crunching time (but I'm not sure about that). Anyway, just go ahead and crunch a few. You'll see those points add up and you'll have the extreme satisfaction of knowing that you are slowly slamming H.I.V. against the wall. The power of our combined super-computer will get the job done and every WU gets us closer to that goal. smile tongue biggrin

Re: BOINC - it's here!

My Projects is ticked for both FAAH and HPF, but I still only get HPF wu's is it possible to get both, or for them to alternate?

Hello Trog Dog,
If you look at the minimum requirements at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq you will see that FightAIDS@Home has much higher requirements than HPF. Usually the 250 MB RAM requirement is what keeps people from running FAAH. HPF only needs 120 MB.

applause Re: BOINC - it's here!

For last week, it looked like the WUs I got alternated between HPF and FAAH but I've gotten five FAAH WU in a row now. With only two projects, you've got a 50-50 chance (in simplistic terms) of getting a FAAH WU. I just have to chuckle a bit at the way randomness displays itself. Feels good to be crunching FAAH again!

Re: BOINC - it's here!

nonames,

Have you tried to edit the client_state.xml file? You'll want to change the line

<domain_name>localhost</domain_name>

to something like this

<domain_name>kitchen</domain_name>
or
<domain_name>kitchen.somehost.com</domain_name>

Hope this helps.

My windows box now happily crunches both wu's, but I had problems with my 2 linux boxes (only with FAAH - constantly erroring out with 0 status) - the 250MB requirement explained the problems on one box, but not the other - 256MB. It now turns out that I hadn't properly configured my swap partition on this box blushing
