Why just protease and not integrase etc? What companies benefit from this project? I love watching it work on my PC.

Integrase is a different problem. I'm sure there are other research programs examining integrase right now, and if any integrase research is suitable for grid computing, I'm sure WCG will host the project. Who knows, maybe FightAids@Home has plans to move on to integrase in later phases of their research.
As for your second question - any company can benefit from the research done here. It is one of the requirements of the WCG that the results of any research we do is published publicly, so anyone can take advantage of it. I am not an IP lawyer, but I know that putting this research in the public domain makes it easier to create generics, even if the brand names do get to market first. |
