FAAD 5.07 vs. autodock

As best as I can puzzle out, FightAids@Home is here for BOINC, though I have not found in the text where that is really announced besides the forum note.

Ok, no problems there

But, BOINC in the work tab shows faad 5.07, yet the download seems to be autodock, the running process also autodock. Is this correct? I mean, you could have made it more confusing if you worked at it I suppose, but, you did succeed pretty well with out much effort ...

Good catch, Paul.
I did not notice the FAAD. I'll send a note to our staff.

Yes, we have updated the FightAIDS@Home AutoDock 4 program for UD Windows, BOINC Windows and BOINC Linux. There are a number of small bug fixes. Also, we redid the application view / screensaver so that Section C does not always start scaling from 0. This way we are (hopefully) always drawing a green line showing results. There used to be a case when we could not draw the line, alarming our members. Finally, we managed to cut VM allocation a small amount, about 10% (I am estimating, still uncertain).

knreed is closing in on the BOINC results page. But he has about 2 months of other jobs before he can even start looking at the XML statistics. There is a lot to do to get everything running on DB2.

Meanwhile, we have to get the new Rosetta code for HPF2 boarded.

I hope that your suggestions for fixing the feeder code work out.

Added: smile knreed has just explained that the BOINC Team XML stats should come sooner. There is a more ambitious plan to export more detailed XML statistics that is going to be delayed. I confused the two different XML jobs.

Re: FAAD 5.07 vs. autodock

Well, I don't see the graphics as I do BOINC only. So, I get to miss out on that ...

I just created a page in the Wiki for World COmmunity Grid to summarize the project for those that wander about there ...

Are you folks going to "back-feed" (I hope) the BOINC code for DB2 to the BOINC Baseline? I mean, there are those that maintain that MySQL is a bad choice for a database and a port to DB2 would possibly be a nice feature if ya'll are generous ... :)

Hmmm, there is a thought ... port BOINC to Oracle too ... I will have to think on that one ... as I used to be an Oracle bigot ...

Dr. Anderson made a different change that has roughly the same effect. I suppose since I could not complete and prove the build that this was a safer choice. So, I have started to look into trying to stand up a BOINC project on my home network and using OS-X and the X-Code tools to build BOINC ...

Thanks for the update...

We are using MySQL as the database for BOINC. We are using DB2 as the database for the website. We send messages (XML over MQSeries) between the two systems and do data export/imports from the BOINC db into the website db to keep the data in sync. The results page will actually be the only page on the website that touches the BOINC database.

Re: FAAD 5.07 vs. autodock

Ah, ok ... I misunderstood! :)

Not uncommon.

One of the more common assertions is that the performance of BOINC would be vastly improved if a "real" database was used. I am not so convinced of that for my own part. If there are performance issues (and I think there are) they are more likely to be from the general design of BOINC itself.

I cannot prove that yet as I do not have an operational project ... :)

I am looking into standing one up at home here though, in part to validate the documentation (such as it is) and also to test some of these issues. To do that you need a before and after though ... :)

Anyway, one of the only ways I know to quiet the critics that usually have little or no design experience is to actually build the competing version and show that it does, or does not, show any performance differences.

The point that the licencing cost of DB2, Oracle, or any other comercial database is a killer for most projects is lost in their minds as being irrelevant ...

Probably more harmful is the fact that BOINC is still structured towards v3 or 4 of the MySQL database. Which would be another point to improve capability, upgrade the schema to a more rational structure and start to add triggers and stored procedures.

Oh well, ... thanks for the answer ...
