HIV/AIDS testing is standard operating procedure
Thursday, September 16, 2010 A recently amended New York State law will now offer the option for HIV testing as a part of routine medical care to all patients being treated at most Empire State medical care facilities, officials announced last week. Governor David Paterson signed the bill, S8227, into law in July and it became effective on September 1. The plan will enable patients to give oral consent to medical personnel to administer a basic test for HIV/AIDS. Additionally, people under the age of 18 do not need parental consent to be tested for HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases.... |

Novel sensing mechanism discovered in dendritic cells to increase immune response to HIV HIV-1 viral particles, shown here as dark spheres, are recognized by infected human dendritic cells, the sentinels of the immune system, through a newly discovered sensor. The viruses are then released in special packets that are presented to T-cells to indicate which invaders the T-cell army should attack. Manipulating this novel response system could aid in vaccine design, a new study shows. Credit: Credit: Nicolas Manel, Alice Liang and Eric Roth Thursday, September 9, 2010 Dendritic cells are the grand sentinels of the immune system, standing guard 24/7 to detect foreign invaders such as viruses and bacteria, and bring news of the invasion to other immune cells to marshal an attack. These sentinels, however, nearly always fail to respond adequately to HIV, the virus causing AIDS. Now a team of scientists at NYU Langone Medical Center has discovered a sensor in dendritic cells that recognizes HIV, spurring a more potent immune response by the sentinels to the virus. They report their findings in the September 9, 2010, issue of Nature.,,, |

Did you check before you make that statement about their being "surely posted here before" I did a search prior to posting and they were not.
Also the title of the forum states "Interesting News articles about AIDS". It does not state they should be published say in the last 3 to 4 days for example. But that's OK. If you wish I'll start a new forum called for example "Interesting articles about AIDS -with no time limit" or something like that and not post another article in this one - ever. Your call. |

China says HIV among migrant workers a concern
2010/09/15 China's health minister said he was concerned about the HIV/AIDS situation among migrant workers. BEIJING - China's health minister said Tuesday he was concerned about the HIV/AIDS situation among migrant workers, but added the Asian nation had managed to contain the "fast spread" of the disease. Hmmm. I’ve just noticed that your 19th September Dendritic cells article posting [Sep 19, 2010 6:01:07 AM] is exactly the same article I posted 11th September [Sep 11, 2010 10:23:02 AM] that was published in Science Daily. To avoid this sort of duplication I'll leave you to take care of posting all the interesting articles to this thread in future.

Rutgers researchers discover how HIV resists AZT
by bjs on 19. Sep, 2010 Rutgers researchers have discovered how HIV-1, the virus that causes AIDS, resists AZT, a drug widely used to treat AIDS. The scientists, who report their findings in Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, believe their discovery helps researchers understand how important anti-AIDS treatments can fail and could help AIDS researchers develop more effective treatment for the disease.,.. |

HIV Discovery Brings New Way to Finding a Cure
http://insciences.org/article.php?article_id=9521 "We have shown that a family of proteins, called chemokines, that guide resting cells through the blood and into lymph node tissue can 'unlock the door' and allow HIV to enter and set up a silent or "latent" infection. "Once HIV gets into these cells, the virus can then go to sleep. These "silently" infected cells are not cleared by anti-HIV drugs or the immune system. Once a patient stops the anti-HIV drugs, the virus can then wake up and gets going again". |
