It is with deep regret that I resign as team captain of My Online Team I write this shaking with rage as I have most of this evening on account of abuse hurled at me from all directions by my own team mates. I have given all that I can to the World Community Grid and now that must come to an end. I will arrange with bbover3 for a new team captain to be installed in my position. I'm sorry but my endevours will be focused elsewhere from now on. I should spend more of my time with my Church as that is where my heart lies. I have led you all up to that third position for which help I will be eternally grateful and I hope only good will come from the World Community Grid I wish you all the very best in life and it is with a heavy heart that I have come to this discision. My sincere apologies to all of my team mates who have stuck with me through thick and thin. I am sorry but I can take no more I must move on. Goodnight Team Dave WHAT!! David, I sincerely hope this is not going to happen and you will re-consider. I for one have nothing but complete admiration to your dedication and commitment for your efforts with MOT. My perspective as a fairly long-term member who regularly read the team post (and not much else) is that you are a model capt'n. I.e. You give a damn. I know not the what's and whys of what has caused this, but surely the overall picture and the progress made by MOT AND the WCG must sway this decision. I do not normally post, unless I have something valid to say - On this occasion I think ALL team-mates should post a "Please stay capt'n" and show support to you. On a lighter note - 100k beckons (at last!). Slow but sure: Long-term commitment = Huge progress to cure awful diseases. |

I don't speak up to often but I certainly feel the need to now. I, like others, found out this news by going to the team website and seeing this suprising note about our captain quitting. Now I'm not sure who is giving him grief but please give our captain a bit more respect. He certainly deserves it with ALL the work that he puts into the threads and the website itself. I for one LOVE the website he built and I go there constantly to check the new updates and stats not to mention the updates that he puts on there.
I certainly hope that our captain does come back even if he does need some time away to clear his head. Life can get hectic sometimes and it is understandable. Whats not understandable is that his own teammates are giving him flack for whatever reason. Please lets just drop whatever bad feelings or comments that we may have and give support where it is needed. |

Hi Dave,
----------------------------------------I haven't been much around in the forums, but I've regularly checked the forums and the progress the team (and I) have made. I would not lightly throw away all that you have built up over this past year. I would suggest that most team members have joined in good faith and enjoy being in the team. Anyway, I think I speak for the majority of us when we do sincerely wish that you reconsider this step. Members who no longer enjoy the company of MOT should simply leave. Cheers Jeff |

What the Heck has happened?????? This team was created by this man and a few others. I have been on this team since a month after it's formation. This supportive team has let a member and not just any member down. These threads are supposed to be a way to build friendships I thought not destroy them. The dedication he has shown to this team has been over the top and beyond.
Dave I for one will miss you as the team captain and if you go I will move on! I will NOT stay on this team if this situation can not be resolved!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not a threat it is a promise. I have gained many friends here, but I cannot stay with a team if they mud sling there own members............................. Take care Dave.........You are already missed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() |

Dave,
----------------------------------------I sincerely request that you reconsider. I do not know where the assaults have come from but the one thing I have found - espicially on the internet - is that there are usually a few mean-spirited idiots who are very verbose. However, there are many many more well meaning friendly people who do not speak up often about their support for your efforts. I think that you should be incredibly proud of the team you have built and the efforts you have given to World Community Grid. All of the other top teams at World Community Grid exist becuase of some external reason (like they work for the company (IBM) or they are getting something free (Easynews) or they belong to an existing online community (Tribalwar and Slashdot)). The fact that you have built a team and frankly a new online community simply from the participants at World Community Grid is an impressive accomplishment that reflects your dedication to the cause. You have helped many people contribute and created many friendships through the team you created. to the members of MOT - I challenge all of you who are the 'quiet and friendly' sort to post in this thread your support of our captain. The Aspens ![]() |
