Re: BOINC - Link adress gives error message by BOINC

Read what it says:

Fri 06 Jun 2008 08:15:48 PM EDT|World Community Grid|You are using the wrong URL for this project
Fri 06 Jun 2008 08:15:48 PM EDT|World Community Grid|The correct URL is http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/

You missed off the www part. But World Community Grid is listed in the wizard - you can simply select it.

confused Re: BOINC - Link adress gives error message by BOINC

Not sure if the wizard of 5.4.11 was/is that advanced to list all the projects supported, but this is definitely the most self help of self help messages seen I've seen so far and applaud the programmer for this. Maybe extend the second line a little to state:
"Detach this project and Reattach with correct URL http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ "

Maybe extend the second line a little to state:
"Detach this project and Reattach with correct URL http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ "

You don't need that message as it automatically detaches from the wrong URL when you first attach to it.

What BOINC does is download the master URL file, check in it that you're using the correct URL, if not, tell you that you're using the wrong URL, tell you what the correct URL is and then reset and detach.

It won't detach automatically when you're already attached and the project URL changes. Then it'll give you the message that the URL for the project has changed and asks you to detach and reattach when it is convenient. cool

Re: BOINC - Link adress gives error message by BOINC

Really got me fooled to think that that 5.4.11 client IS attached to a malformed url and WCG being the one to send a message across to say what the correct address is.

Re: BOINC - Link adress gives error message by BOINC

In a way WCG does, by still sending the master URL file (master_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml) even though it comes from the wrong address. Perhaps that there shouldn't be a scheduler reply at all on http://worldcommunitygrid.org

But his BOINC did automatically detach, as shown in his messages that are all at the same second:
Fri 06 Jun 2008 08:15:48 PM EDT|World Community Grid|General preferences have been updated
Fri 06 Jun 2008 08:15:48 PM EDT|World Community Grid|You are using the wrong URL for this project
Fri 06 Jun 2008 08:15:48 PM EDT|World Community Grid|The correct URL is http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/
Fri 06 Jun 2008 08:15:48 PM EDT|World Community Grid|Resetting project
Fri 06 Jun 2008 08:15:48 PM EDT||Rescheduling CPU: exit_tasks
Fri 06 Jun 2008 08:15:48 PM EDT|World Community Grid|Detaching from project

I'd need confirmation for John Keck or JM7 to know for sure, but as far as I know all BOINC 5 clients have done this.
