Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

Welcome back Bill!
Thanks
If you still have my email could you send me a copy of the recruitment message you are using? I can try posting to a couple of local boards to see if we can encourage more new members.
Done. Anything any of our members can do is greatly appreciated.
Did you ever look at the web page that Fred was setting up a month or two ago under www.worldbrewers.info ? You might be able to combine some of your page and some of Fred's or use the domain name he booked to make it easier to remember.
MEA CULPA! When I came back from my extended absence, I didn't have the time to go completely through the team thread to read what I assumed would be stale news, so I completely missed it. I'm very impressed, and I've already changed our WCG page to list Fred's page as our new official home page. Thank you, Fred. It is much more professional than the amateurish work that I've been doing. I presume that it is still a work in progress (aren't ALL webpages?), so please don't be offended when I point out that the link under "the Projects ... read more" is broken. Everything else works fine.

I plan to change my personal webpage -- http://home.alltel.net/billvelek/world-community-page.html -- to provide a link to our new home page, and I have a few other changes in mind. While your page is much more "professional" looking, I will probably continue to use my page in my personal efforts because I happen to like the video news clip, and because I've put so much work into it that I hate to throw it all away. Hey, the larger our web presence, the more effective we should be, right?
Well, off to stir up the plum mead brewing in the basement!

Dave
Mmmm -- sounds good, but I don't have the patience for a mead. I'm already drinking my last batches of wine that are only a couple of months old. But good luck.

Cheers.

Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

Welcome back Bill!

Happy to have you back on the forums!

Congrats on passing us by in the points category! Good Show!

Thanks. Sorry that I was gone for so long. I just hope that someone on the HomeBrewers team had the good manners and grace to yell: "SEEEEEEE YAAAAA". biggrin

Cheers.

Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

I have just made some significant changes to my personal webpage about WCG and HomeBrewers; comments are welcome.

If any other "HomeBrewers" have a personal page that pertains to the World Community Grid, or to our team, or even to grid-computing in general, please let me know and I will add a link to my page. I will also appreciate any cross-links to my page from other members.

Thanks.

Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

It's looking good Bill applause

Thanks for link I'll set up a links page for links back. Google et al like that kind of thing and our joint ratings go up on the search engines which can only be a good thing.

I'm just hosting the wcgwiki and I'm responsible for the "spread the word" feature but it's Dagorath's and Didactylos's hard work along with a bevy (Home Brew pun intended) of volunteers from around the globe to translate into many languages. We had visitors from 50 Countries during August!!

Anyway won't hog the thread

Glad to see you back in action

Dave

Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

It looks most excellent. All the content is extremely valuable information. The only criticism I'm going to give is that it's kind of dense. Give it room to breathe ;-)

Thanks for linking to wcgwiki.org - it's much appreciated. Do you mind changing it to point to wcgwiki.org/ not wcgwiki.org/en/ ? People with the right language settings in their browser are automatically redirected to their own language.

Thanks for the feedback, David and Didactylos.

Done, according to the properties for the link; however, when I click on it, I end up with an "/en" at the back. I guess that's just automatic for my computer.

As for it's denseness, I suppose you mean that it is all crammed together too much. I'll have to take some time to play around with it. I'm just an amateur (that's obvious), and it has been difficult to get the columns to work out to the same length. I started with those when a reader complained about having to read all the way across the width of the page, but then I went back to full-width table cells because of all the trouble of trying to get the cells to fit together and still look half decent. But I'll see what I can do when I have more time. I really need to get on with other business right now.

Cheers.

Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

Well, HomeBrewers, we just passed another milemarker and now have over 8 million points. I've been trying to recruit, but we only have two new members -- one of them my son. But I remain hopeful.

Just made a few more improvements to my web-page, including a link to a second video about WCG. Also added this link to a BOINC site with neat graphs showing just how well we've been doing.

Cheers.

Hi Bill, welcome back~!

Thanks for the test of the web page. I'll fix the broken link (perhaps it's not broken, just the page hasn't been created yet? I'll find out anyway). I need to finish up and add a couple more pages, and links to other pages (including yours). I can also add links to videos if you think it would enhance the "officialness" of the page.

I'm still recovering from the audit and catching up on the other projects that got bumped, so since you are "back in charge" I'll just keep a low profile for now.

Hi all!

Cheers

Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

Fred, thanks for all your help and hard work. I'll leave all decisions regarding our official website to you; you've done a great job so far. Regarding the videos, I happen to personally like them -- especially the one by Heather Harrison. I think that one, in particular, might help alleviate any concerns that this might be some sort of a scam; that's one o the reasons why I'm still using my site for my personal recruitment efforts.

Tonight we reached 128th place, and we should pass the next team tomorrow, and then another in probably two more days. Going is now slow because of the large gaps in points between each position. I'm still hopeful that we can make it into the top 100 before our first year anniversary, but a lot will depend on how many teams have recently passed us and how many will pass us before we reach that goal.

I've pretty much fallen flat no my face with my recent recruitment efforts -- very disappointing. We've only recruited three new members in this drive, and one of them was my son.

Cheers.

Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

Fred,

Welcome back again. Did you ever look into a way to get rid of the picture of the two people looking up at (a UFO??) on the home page? Seems a little goofy still.

Bill,

Got your note and I will try to post to a couple of local brewing lists later in the week. I did convince a friend at work to join the team who generates 3 to 4K a day. May have to give away some homebrew to pay him back!

Dave
