Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

I just noticed the forum and wanted to pop in and say hello.

I looked over my graphs, and I need to start firing up my laptop to let it run overnight and continue working. I usually just put it aside when I get home until I take it back to work in the morning.

Hi! Thanks for noticing us and dropping - and thanks for crunching with the team!

I installed BOINC on my laptop after doing some research on thermal limits of various processors. I noticed that the Intel "M" series P4 range from 85 to 92 degrees C for their shutdown temperature, and since I wasn't sure what running it at 100% CPU was going to do for it, I installed Threadmaster (http://threadmaster.tripod.com/) to choke all processes to a maximum 66% CPU.

I at first tried to slow the BOINC, but it invokes the crunching threads out of process, making it impossible to slow them without a sledgehammer approach: Slow eveything, but make a "white list" of programs I don't want slowed.

I'm still not sure that I couldn't run the laptop at 100%, but I don't want a melted CPU for my troubles, either.

Just something to keep in mind...

Cheers

Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

Some awesome crunching of late by you Fred - I take it you've added a few more logs on the fire?

At your current rate, getting into the Top 100 won't be too far away - and you can be assured of my support to help push you there in the near future wink

Why thank you, sir. We'll certainly enjoy the extra push when the time comes.

blushing Yes, I seem to have overshot the mark on crunching just a bit. I was getting annoyed that I couldn't maintain a consistent 20k/day, some days it was over, but most days it wasn't, so I added a few machines (the advantage of having remote terminal servers to other offices is that they're not used for 16 hours a day...) That just about taps out the Tucson servers (I won't install CPU hog tasks on certain core servers, so they're off limits, and the others are all "Volunteered")

Cheers

Thank you Signore, that's much appreciated.

As I enjoy brewing "odd" things, I think I will try this one as soon as the weather gets cooler.

In the meantime, I was enjoying the recipe for making "E"cstasy from safrole (the carcinogenic compound in sassafras, formerly found in root beer) here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safrole. As they say, "Don't try this at home!"

Cheers

Well done dreamboat - great crunching applause

And well done to all the others here who have passed so many milestones recently cool

Ah, but now the problem is your now getting over 30K on most days, but not consistantly, so your going to have to put some more on line to do that - then it'll be 40K etc - its so addictive!! biggrin

I also see that your going to pass me in the next day or so in the Boinc Stats , and no doubt overall at WCG in the near future - well done Fred your a credit to WCG and your Team applause

Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

Hi guys,

just a brief stop to say my company's been pigeoned by auditors (you know: fly in, crap, fly out) and I've been putting in steady 18 work hour days since the end of last week putting in logging and auditing and preparing for a full physical inventory (of about $12M US of inventory).

I should be back next week, after all this.

Thanks Ady, thanks V_R, I appreciate the notes and thanks. You're right, it is addictive (well, if one has any free time in which to be awake), and you're right, now I'm hovering between 27-29k/day which makes it awfully close to 30...So...since you're brought it up, I will allow myself a small pat on the back: Fred B: 3.049 million points

HOMEBREWERS: Nice totals, we're climbing up that 150-100 ladder pretty nicely. Well done on the 7+ million point total!

Dreamboat, looks like that new machine is really cranking out work. It's good to see new members, old returning members, and steady producers alike hanging in with us.

Thanks to everyone for their support.

Cheers
