Oh Dave the points/runtime/results debate
---------------------------------------- Dave Dave Dave Dave Dave I know we are here for the results that is what ultimately matters the most but.... If we have got more results than IBM Corporation it's just that we got lucky and picked up a whole load of smaller ones along the way . The same with runtime. If you are running a 1Ghz PC and someone else is running a 3Ghz PC then for each hour that you do the person with the 3Ghz Monster is doing more.I know it's not perfect but points are the fairest way to measure your own and your teams contribution overall to the grid. It's in thread 1505 by someone I know very well Take me and our under water cruncher team mate Frans (frans6nl) Frans has crunched for 3 years 116 days and completed 2430 results I have crunched for 2 years 299 days and yet I have 3865 results, I've just been luckier than Frans - he's had some monsters along the way. My points per hour score is slightly higher than Frans (Sorry Frans) and so the points score shows Frans 600th or thereabouts and me around the 500th mark. Depending on which stat we chose we could be as high as 311th or 444th Your contribution should be measured as a constituent of time and the amount of oomph contributed to the project that's where points come in to standardize the discrepancy detailed above. Sorry Dave but it's a hoary old chestnut that doesn't seem to go away. Every now and again folk seem to think that I'm doing the team down not giving us the credit we deserve. If I could claim we were 3rd I assure you I certainly would but points make for a leveler playing field .IBM Corp really have done more work towards this project than we have Fairs, fair Night Dave ![]() |

p.s. IBM Corp have done another 20 years more crunching and their PC's are faster overall than ours (After all they are IBM
---------------------------------------- ) so they should be in front of usI'm gone ![]() ![]() |

Click on My Forum Profile above and then on Change My Information Then go six items down change your posts per page to 50 and you will only have 9 pages to wade through them ![]() Thanks Graham - that is a lot better. I checked another forum I am in (much less busy) and it has the same feature. Shame that you can't choose 'previous page' and 'next page' right from the outset. Have a lovely week, |

We do seem to be holding our own with just a few members, compared to the other teams listed above us - thanks to you millionaires, I think! Matt -- Yep -- their points do help, but we wouldn't be in the top five teams overall without us little guys crunching 24/7 with our one or two systems either. Every last one of us has put us there! Hi Dave - yes - point taken! I have the bug and keep leaving my sys on overnight as well. Have pinched a little CPU time from my son's PC as well - when is is not playing his online game! Last night he did me a 'favour' and shut my PC down for me after I went to bed. Noooooo! We are away soon for a holiday, so the old points will take another beating. ![]() |

Dave --
I am watching the Panthers playoff against the NY Giants this afternoon. At half time, the Panthers lead the game 10 to 0 and have pretty much controlled the ball the entire first half. Back to watch the second half. |
