Re: smile smile smile Join "My Online Team" Today smile smile smile

This looks perfectly normal to me. The statistics report shows the work completed on each day. On 12/31, you completed 3 work units that took 1 day and 13 hours to complete (obviously one of those had to have started prior to 12/31). At some point early on 01/01, you completed the next work unit that took only six and a half hours (it had started before the end of 12/31). By 06:00 GMT today, you had completed the next work unit that was started on 01/01 plus another work unit. The two that had completed by 06:00 today had taken 1 day and nearly 3 hours to complete. If you go to "Device Installations" on your "My Grid" page, you can actually see the time each of your devices last completed a result.

Thanks Dave - that makes me feel better. I have a bit to learn about all these stats and work units - I have only just realised that is the figure showing after the points score! Just wish I could harness more PCs...

Re: smile smile smile Start 2006 Right! Join "My Online Team" Today smile smile smile

Morning All (EST Time anyway)

Johnny it's just that I thought the team might be sitting there thinking 226K points in a day isn't good enough - the ungrateful so and so biggrin

Matt it looks like the effect of the Monster Work Unit.

About 10 hours is your average work unit size on todays average PC. So some days you will get 2 results other days 3 as they fit into and overlap the 24 hour day. This is the normal mode of operation

However, every now and again, a batch of work units will come along that take 24 hours + which we nicknamed the Monster. In the early days of the WCG these might last up to a couple of weeks + to run to completion so these are mini monsters by comparison. But the effect is to take your PC's results out of the stats across the board for that day seemingly dipping your points score and consequently the team's, as though you had stopped crunching - even though you are smile

The thing about the Monster is the bounceback once they have worked their way through each PC and normal 10 hour operation returns. This gives a spike of points as a couple of days worth + of crunching is returned by each PC in a single 24 hour period. I think the technical term is ringing for any electronics engineers out there.

I was kind of expecting this to reflect in last nights results but maybe the effect is lasting a little longer than I had seen with my own PC's hence the flippant remark.

Dave - are the Panthers playing 4 or 3 games to the SuperBowl? We've both done the same at each side of the Atlantic, sketched it out on a sheet of paper smile 12 teams doesn't work without the by's biggrin

We have a new kid on the block

Clubic.com have arrived in style

Let's see if we can hold onto to that 6th spot for daily points for a tad longer.

Dave --
The Panthers are one of the "Wild Card" teams and will have to play the full 4 games if they want to win it all. They should have won their division championship, but managed to throw away their game a week ago. Oh well, having them start the playoffs a week earlier will give me something to get excited about next weekend. I also think that the teams who do not play the first weekend are slightly dissadvantaged because it puts them out of the normal weekly game stride.

Dave

I've never understood American Football but I'll be following the Panthers Progress from now on.

When is the next game?

Dave --
The Panthers will play the New York Giants on Sunday, January 8, at 1:00 PM. Both teams have an 11-5 won loss record. The game will be played at the New York Giants stadium in New Jersey (how can they even be called a "New York" team when they aren't even in the state?).

Website stats

Dave - are the stats on your site updating as regularly as they should?

My points stand at 56,612 according to your site... but I was at 71,803 after the stats updated last night.

That'd put me at 103rd, rather than 111th biggrin
