Re: UDmon - Can it close UD.exe automatically or not?

Thanks for your response and clarity.

However, I have already got the settings as you specify and I had already unticked the 2nd tick box which is why I don't understand why it's not just continuing on to the next WU instead of complaing at me that the progrsam is already running.

Re: UDmon - Can it close UD.exe automatically or not?

If u look in the agent (which must be running), does it say something like 'preparing to send'? Is UD mon in same directory as Agent? Have u disabled any autodial internet functions in your internet browser?

Been using it when travelling before the BOINC days, 12 slots and it just went thru them like clockwork, then parked if done.

Are u using the batch to start UD Mon which should contain the line "start ud_mon.exe -wcg". If i use that or a shortcut with the "-wcg" parm, then i dont get the error message ;>)

ciao

Re: UDmon - Can it close UD.exe automatically or not?

Thanks again.

I was not launching it from the batch file, no. I was double clicking on UDmon.exe which I expect is what was causing the problem. By running the batch file it will of course repeat the loop theoretically. I've downloaded another 5 WU's, copied them to the standalone, and have run UDMon via the batch file. I've checked the settings are correct (i.e. don't try to send results before processing next WU etc) too. It's working on the oldest WU currently, so when I come back into work on Monday we'll see if it has worked or not.

Cheers - fingers crossed :-)

Ted

Re: UDmon - Can it close UD.exe automatically or not?

Actually UD monitor is designed to run for 3 projects, Grid, WCG and F@H. By giving the -wcg parameter, it knows how to set up the utility for 'Us'....if it does not get told, it will not be able to unload the present running agent and load the next in the subsequent slot.

using the batch should have set u up proper now.

Re: UDmon - Can it close UD.exe automatically or not?

Yep - running the batch file has sorted it. The 5 WU's I rakced up last week finished on Monday, and since then I've connected it up twice to an Internet PC, run the batch file again, done the 'Send\Receive' and it's sent the results and re-filled the slots.

Brilliant.

So yes, as many have you said, it works like a charm if you run the batch file. Perhaps some clearer instructions should be written or built into the app to state that users should run the app using the batch file if they want some automation.

Thanks for all your help and patience. Right - on with some crunching!

True. You have to use the batch file for WCG. That's the only difference. The default is for the grid.org version.

I remember most things about UDMonitor, but I'm using BOINC these days, since it's even easier to manage and can run a whole crapload of different projects if you get bored with one. BOINC can download/upload in parallel with something else crunching. That was always a timewaster in this dial-up interface. I had to wait for the upload/download to finish before the crunching would start again.

Now, with the new BOINC graphics, there are even more similarities.

confused Re: UDmon - Can it close UD.exe automatically or not?

I've been using UD_Monitor at Grid for years and wouldn't want to crunch without it.

Then I migrated here ...ran everything as I always have and>>>>>BOOM!!!

I had the same results as Ted!!
after going through this thread a couple of times; it finally hit me !!

I went into my UD folder( which can be anywhere EXCEPT start-up), created a shortcut to the above mentioned batch file, pasted into my >>>all users>>> startup folder and VIOLA!! all is well..so far?!?!

I've manually swithed back and forth with no problems ....
......Thank ye ole wise ones!!!!!!!

Re: UDmon - Can it close UD.exe automatically or not?

you dont need the batch as eluded in one of the posts, just the -wcg suffix in your shortcut as in (for my italian OS) C:\Programmi\WCG\ud_mon.exe -wcg The -wcg tells it which agent to support. Anyway, glad u'r happy
