Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Re Nibi going down for a working week:

Here's what I posted when the same thing was mentioned somewhere in the previous version of the Project Status thread...
The "...Nibi cloud will remain available for use" is, I hope, an indication that WCG should not be adversely affected by that. Hopefully, we'll be informed one way or the other.
WCG never mentioned it, and it's now well past the start of that down time and all bits of WCG apart from core BOINC and that discourse server are still up and running, so DIgital Research Alliance Canada's statement seems sound...

Perhaps at some point in the future DRA will adapt their user-facing documentation to replace references to Graham Cloud with references to Nibi Cloud? We'll see...

Now, let's hope that the goings on in the Nibi compute cluster don't spill over onto the cloud structure later in the week -- Dylan seems to be nearing the end of what needs sorting out :-)

Cheers - Al.

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Following the existing
SERVER ROOM INFO
link on the first page of this thread, I eventually got to this and wanted to share it:

Incident description
Service Incident status Start Date End Date
Nibi Open 2 days ago in 3 days

and hovering over the "in 3 days", you can get the following information:
ETA on end time is 2025-09-26 12:00 PM EDT
The balance of that page is as follows:
Created by Mark Hahn on 2025-09-12 3:42 PM EDT
Title
Planned Outage - Arrêt planifié

Summary
Nibi requires some final configuration, updates, and benchmarking to be conducted. The CPU nodes will be unavailable from 9am on Sept 22 until noon on Sept 26th. During this time the GPU nodes, login nodes, storage and Nibi cloud will remain available for use. Queued jobs will remain in slurm waiting for these CPU nodes to return to service.

Updated by Mark Hahn on 2025-09-12 3:44 PM EDT

So, the solution to the problem is not, as most everyone believes, to be within the realm of WCG but with the group that hosts the servers we use(we were migrated to Nibi from a section that they have retired).

And as I perceive their messages, I do not expect WCG to be able to be up and processing WU's NO SOONER THAN THIS FRIDAY, September 26th.

As others have indicated, There is nothing wrong at your end, nor do you need to do anything other than wait...

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

An interesting comment from Dylan (our brave tech team member), working on a Sunday, see post 706043, (asking for your patience) "Working on BOINC now."

Adri
Well, the "Teams" section is a rather unfortunate place to post any updates, as a lot of people are NOT part of a team and as such not likely to see anything posted in there...

-- Sent: WCG resume after NIBI overhaul?
Hello could you elaborate on the realistic timetable for world community grid resumption after cloud NIBI overhaul scheduled for completion tomorrow?  I am having to manually pause and resume my backup project, Einstein@home across my farm to keep busy while WCG is down and hate to keep guessing if i should resume it yet again. Remaining steps, timetables?

Thanks for all you do.

i look forward to the next chapter of community Distributed Computing, perhaps eventually involving more than just Jurisca and Princess Margaret Cancer Center by attracting interest by showing reliability success viability. Perhaps developing DC platform that not only supports the traditional small data sets that requires millions of permutations,  but also larger, more network intensive to open up to more applications that would normally require local compute cluster.  Capability computing versus Capacity computing someone calls it.

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Thank you Daniel for the information from Dr. Igor. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that Dylan is close to getting WCG working, and all our machines crunching again.

The due times have been extended again by four more days.

My oldest tasks are now due on Tuesday 30 September (2025-09-30 04:56:57 UTC).

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

What is Dr. Jurisica replying to other people's e-mails except mine? I sent one in March 2025 after someone suggested I use the e-mail link because he only posts on these forums once every year or so. Ovarian -> Sarcoma -> Ovarian -> ??

Did I say something rude or something? :/

Yes, that (at the moment) seems to be the only indication that "something/someone's at home". Obviously, I'm seriosuly hoping that this isn't the case. but this continued "radio scilence" doesn't help... The last comment on the Jurisica Lab Operational Status web page, was from the 18th, titled "Forum issues detected". Nothing about when the BOINC servers will be restarted etc.

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

As I've posted before, communications on this DC project is horrible. Putting out a informative valid update every few days COSTS NOTHING. No lack of money excuse. I'm sure there are several reliable people here. Unixchick does good updates with what thy get, WCG should chose 1 or 2 to provide an update in detail and let them post it. Not that difficult. Crunchers really don't like searching all over the forum for an update. I could have told everyone that the expected 2 days transfer would never happen, expect a month. For whatever reason, this project has chosen to work harder and not smarter. Not a good way to run things. As for my results, all show expired Sept 4, maybe that will change when its all done. Somebody on their own found out that Nibi is down until Sept 26. Really, members here are proving better or in some cases the only update? The improvements I mentioned don't cost a penny. Thanks for all the hard work WCG but you can and need to do better.
