Dear volunteers - sorry about much longer downtime than anticipated - but - we are finally back online - and Dylan was able to make some improvements as well.
We will share more details soon - but we also want to finish our start of the MAM project. thank you for your support and understanding. WCG team |

Thank you Igor, and the entire WCG team, for all the hard work it took to get back online again. Very well done.

I tried to reconnect 2 Android devices that crashed/broke during upgrade to version 8.2.5. "failed to connect" is the response I see when trying to reattach. Oh well, will try tomorrow again.

Candidly, this migration was a disaster. I will not go into a 9 paragraph spew of the migration, but telling us it's going to take 2 days and then it takes 19 shows that the WCG, yet again, are either vastly under-skilled in maintaining technology or have absolutely no clue on how to project a down-time. Or both.
----------------------------------------That being said, I'll ask again for the nth time: why in the world hasn't WCG, especially given the boot from IBM, completely re-written this client/server application?! From the looks of all migration problems over the years as well as most upgrades/patches/changes, the problems occur in IBM land: Websphere and DB2. Dump these IBM garbage apps and build something modern with non-IBM software. Seriously. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by ericinboston at Sep 18, 2025 6:05:50 PM] |

Thanks to ALL those who helped get the web site migrated to the new environment and accessible. It is appreciated!
I understand that there is still a bit more to be done to get the flow of WU's resumed and I look forward to uploading my completed WU's and downloading new WU's to be processed. Not sure if this current delay is a planned ramping up of the functions or if there is actually more finetuning to complete. Looking forward to additional updates and the resuming of the flow of WU's. Again, thank you for all your hard work! Sincerely, BFMorse |

Very amateur migration. Will jump out next year when I celebrate 20 years of calendar contribution.

ericinboston, if you're willing to fully fund all the wok that'd entail, then I'm positive the WCG team would welcome it.
----------------------------------------I'm sure the WCG techies have been working as hard as they possibly can during this 'elongated outage', but by the sounds of it, they've also utilsised it to improve things going forward. As with any tech (IBM or not), if the skills/resources aren't available 'in bundles', then things will take time. I've been in IT support for over 35 years, currently working for a major high street bank in the UK, and even we have unexpected issues/set-backs in changes we do (and that's will a full development system/test plans etc.), forcing an occasional backout to be performed. With limited budgets/skilled staff (i.e., not enough of them/little time to 'take off and do training courses' etc.), I'm sure the WCG techies are proud to be able to keep WCG going. After all, it could all have come to a sudden stop when IBM decidded to pull the corporate plug on this community venture. ![]() |

lionking19br, as yet, we don't know the 'full picture' of why it took so long to get the site/system back up and running. There may have been issues outside the direct control of the WCG techies - after all, it's not everyday the system is fully migrated to a new environment.
----------------------------------------BTW, I also meant to congratualate you (albeit, a bit premature), on your 20 years' worth of contribution next year. LIke you, I'm hoping that with WCG migrating to a completely new environment, things will stabilise and we'll see the introduction of this new project. If you do decide to 'bow out', you can do so with honours, as you'll most certainly have 'done your bit' ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by gb009761 at Sep 18, 2025 12:23:55 AM] |
