Re: WCG migration to a new environment finally complete

Hi, I am crunching on a Mac Mini and am still getting an error saying the project cannot connect to the HTTP of the scheduler?

Only the website is up so far, all BOINC servers are still down.

Good news, can you advise when you think work units will update / new ones available?

Puncharama

The migration to a new system ran into some issues. The techs are working hard to fix the problem. They are working through the weekend. It will be up when they fix all the problems. I doubt they can predict when that will be. When they do give dates, people pile on and say mean rude things if they don't bring it up by their estimate, so better not to give a date/time.

Replying to Link64 post on previous page.

Thanks for the response, which I've only just seen because of forum inaccessibility :-(
I think that sort of thing was a requirement for use within corporate environments to be considered (and on occasion users have had forum posts redacted or privileges suspended because they published system names dug out of the APIs!...)
This shouldn't be possible, if it is, it's a bug, which needs to be fixed. System names (and IP adresses) must be visible to the owner of the system only and nobody else. Is it the IBM software, that makes this possible or is it a bug in BOINC? If it's the IBM software, than that would be another reason to get rid of it.
For information only...

The only place a system name is exposed on the WCG web site itself is on a user's own results pages and various places in the user's "extras" such as profile management and overview pages.

The APIs added by the IBM software return system names instead of numeric host IDs (presumably because most users would be more likely to know their machine names than the corresponding numeric IDs!) -- they only appear in contexts specific to the calling user or to single results, not in requests for workunit details.

The APIs don't seem to provide a mechanism for identifying a user from a machine name or accessing task lists by machine name (other than in a team context, which would require member consent!),

I would agree that in some circumstances a machine name can be very revealing, but if trying to monitor wingman behaviour it is actually less helpful than a numeric ID (as per standard BOINC) would be, assuming that's not hidden in some way...

As I said, for information only :-)

Cheers - Al.

but if the communication happened at frequent intervals, with updated forecasts, not once when it broke and again after the prediction is past-due... people might be more understanding of what's going on.

Re: WCG migration to a new environment finally complete

Cool, so let's give it another 19 days before uploads/downloads work?

LOL - no ways I called it. I mean - I really would be surprised if it came to that... but let's see on the 8th of October wink

A quick update would be a minute or two, and doesn't cost anything. But it would go a long way....
