Before I got the time to post about the lack of tasks, they started trickling in (although not any (new) ARP1s yet).

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Looks like MCM is flowing well. I'm guessing it still hasn't filled caches, but everyone who wants some MCM should be getting them. The number on the first page is in the 40K range and usually everyone is happy at the 60K range.

I've gotten some ARP resends, but it looks like there is a dwindling amount of them still bouncing around. It has been a while since fresh ARP WUs have been released.

I think if the system hardware could just be stable for a while, they might be getting close to giving us MAM too.

Thank you to the techs band-aiding the system.

Preparing to release MAM or new ARPs?

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

There appears to be more MCM1 work again now -- however, my systems were unable to replace completed tasks from about 17:30 UTC until about 22:00 UTC, and during that time there was no sign of retries (or that "other platforms" message)...

I'll be really happy when the data centre issues finally resolve, and I'll bet "Tech Team" feels the same :-)

Cheers - Al.

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Here is the latest update from the Jurisica Lab operational status page:

March 13, 2025
  • We have successfully updated all WCG core libraries, BOINC, Boost, MCM1, and MAM1 in Visual Studio 2022 (formerly 2011/2013) to produce Windows builds for MCM1 and MAM1, prepare for BOINC server upgrade to track upstream BOINC, and to enable future application development for Windows clients. Previously, the toolset was v120, and the Visual Studio install either 2011 or 2013.
  • Mac builds for MAM1 will be delayed slightly; we are exploring using Github Actions, CircleCI, and old unused Mac PCs from team members that we can install XCode on. The lab does not use Mac and we have limited hardware and experience available.
  • We have began to work on reimplementing the createWork daemon and eliminate deadlock bug in multi-threaded preparation of MCM1 workunits set to be made available, when complete intermittent pauses in MCM1 availability should cease.

Cheers,
Mark

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Hmm, they didn't mention anything about MAM for Linux machines.

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Thanks for posting the update here, Mark. It is nice to know what the tech team is working on. As a Mac user, I'm glad they will give me MAM at some point, but it is hard to wait and watch everyone else enjoy the new project. I like knowing ahead of time though.

I'm getting a steady supply of MCM right now. I even got an ARP WU resend. This is a slow way to make it to my 2 year badge, but I'll take small progress over no progress.

edit to add: Is there a stat for how many users of each type of client system/OS?

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

I believe that the majority of PC/Laptop users have Windows, then Linux and then Mac.

Where Android fit in I do not know, although I believe that they can only run MCM at the moment. Will they be able to run MAM?

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

[Edited to reflect the success of my postscript :-)]

Once again, as yesterday, I've received no new tasks since 17:30 UTC. Unfortunately, this time it's now past UTC midnight and the only tasks I now have are an ARP1 retry (!) and four MCM1 on my slowest platform... This time it has taken until 01:15 UTC the next day to get any new work, and only on one of my systems so far...

[I'd be interested to know if anyone else is experiencing experienced the same -- forums have been even more quiet about the lack of work today than they were yesterday :-)

Cheers - Al.

P.S. Here's hoping that posting about it invokes the usual flood of new work to "prove me wrong about problems"... :-) [And yes, it worked, sort of...]
