Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

[Edited to reflect the success of my postscript :-)]

Once again, as yesterday, I've received no new tasks since 17:30 UTC. Unfortunately, this time it's now past UTC midnight and the only tasks I now have are an ARP1 retry (!) and four MCM1 on my slowest platform... This time it has taken until 01:15 UTC the next day to get any new work, and only on one of my systems so far...

[I'd be interested to know if anyone else is experiencing experienced the same -- forums have been even more quiet about the lack of work today than they were yesterday :-)

Cheers - Al.

P.S. Here's hoping that posting about it invokes the usual flood of new work to "prove me wrong about problems"... :-) [And yes, it worked, sort of...]

I am down to one Arp and one MCM left. After that I will be dry. I am running pretty short queues so if the supply dries up I go dry in a few hours.

Cheers

Nothing for 9 hours except a couple of MCM resends. I am almost dry.

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

I just got some fresh MCM WUs I think one of the previous updates stated that the creation of new WUs is having issues and they have to kick it from time to time. So I think this cycle of good flow, resends only and then nothing and then when someone kicks it we get fresh WUs again...

I suddenly got these three after 26 hours getting nothing:

ARP1_0008435_142_0
ARP1_0008580_142_0
ARP1_0008584_142_0

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

The apparent outage of new MCM1 work generation seems to have lasted from about 17:30 UTC on 2025-03-14 to about 04:20 UTC on 2025-03-15, from which point it slowly ramped up until it appeared to be full throttle at about 05:00.

That's a longer interval than the time before; I suspect the Tech Team is getting a bit irritated by this, especially as the fixing now seems to take until late in their day (I believe they're on EDT now (-4 hours) rather than EST).

Here's hoping the createWork daemon fixes mentioned in their 2025-03-13 update will land soon :-)

Cheers - Al.

I've gotten a couple of ARP WUs (gen 142). I can see that they are slowly ramping up the flow of ARPs. I hope everyone gets a few (be nice - share)

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

Disabled receiving work from other projects not selected, so I will no longer get MCM1. I hit my 20-year MCM1 badge so I'm all in on getting ARP1 finished ASAP. Not because I particularly care about ARP1 but mostly because I just want the project done and out of the way. I'm frustrated at the lack of work, but my systems are 100% go for ARP1. Goal is mid-2025 completion, and we can get there if they just open the firehose, assuming we're on the new datacenter and new hardware and migrated to Kuberrnetes and newer BOINC server back-end, etc.

A lot of super unrealistic wishful thinking, I know. :P

I hope the PhD student on the ARP1 project was able to graduate in reasonable time even though the project isn't completely done. I'd hate for that have thrown a wrench in her plans.

hchc

Mid 2025 is totally unrealistic. The units in generations 21 & 22 would take about 6 months from whenever they are unstuck, without any further problems.

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

hchc -

I don't think they will be on the new hardware until. June, so they have done an amazing job keeping the old system functioning.

ARP is iterative, so that defines the speed of the flow when the system can handle it.

I have dedicated my machine to ARP because it is such a wonderfully unique project. So much will be learned from the successes and failures in this project that will shape future projects.

I will suggest you allow a few MCM or when they come out MAM WUs to run to keep your system asking as ARP WU releases are sporadic. Remember to leave a few. WUs for those of us who truly love the project.

Re: Project Status (First Post Updated)

WCG should ignore the ultras. Let Delft run those on their systems.
