2024-02-05 Update (Weekend feeder issue)

As many of you noted on the forums, users encountered a server error over the weekend as the feeder was not running. This issue wad forwarded to the tech team, and they confirmed that the feeder is now running again. They have also extended all streaks that were ongoing as of Saturday (2024-02-03) when the feeder stopped running.

Thanks for your patience as we worked to resolve this issue!

Thanks for the update, and glad the feeder is back up.

They probably already know this, but the "History" only shows up to 2024-02-03, so it's missing all of Sunday and half of today so far.

Re: 2024-02-05 Update (Weekend feeder issue)

Very good TL!

When it comes to streaks, I really do not care. I lost my 1+ Years streak earlier during one of the other outages last year, and it never came back. So I had to restart from zero again. That has happened more than once. I expect to lose the streaks again in the future.

I'm sure others have also lost high streak numbers after some of the previous outages. Streaks are a pretty useless measurement anyway, since it does not work as it should. I for one would not mind if streaks suddenly disappeared from my overview page.

Re: 2024-02-05 Update (Weekend feeder issue)

I feel the same way about the new streaks feature that was added 2-3 years ago. I'd much rather have a lot of the vanilla BOINC functionality like the ability to merge/delete devices (I have some duplicates I'd like combined) and also the out-of-the-box BOINC Server Status page. Same with 1 BOINC point = 7 WCG points...it'd be cool if that went back to 1:1.

Sorry for asking, but after all this, what is the status of the task purging old valid records?
That was supposed to be starting again LAST Monday but so far, they still keep piling up, getting close to 51,000 for me now, though those in PVa jail are down to 244 by now...

It never was 1:1! The way WCG counts "points" is from a time before they started to use BOINC and internally, that is kept this way. And I don't see a problem with it either, as all external stats are using BOINC points, so it is comparable to other, non-WCG projects...

Re: 2024-02-05 Update (Weekend feeder issue)

Thanks for the update, and glad the feeder is back up.

They probably already know this, but the "History" only shows up to 2024-02-03, so it's missing all of Sunday and half of today so far.

That's because you may have uploaded results at the time that the feeder wasn't running, but what counts is the time that the tasks were reported back (and because the feeder wasn't running, the tasks couldn't be reported back).

Example: the last task that was reported back on Friday by me was at 2024-02-03T18:02:12. Then the feeder suddenly stopped running. My crunching computer kept on processing and uploading tasks, while it couldn't report them back. When the feeder returned from its holiday on Monday, my machine had already completed all 64 tasks in its queue and was finally able to report all of them and that's what can be seen on the Results pages: 64 tasks were reported at 2024-02-05T16:58:08. None on Sunday the 4th.

This also explains why your streak was 0 a few hours ago and had to be repaired by the tech team to extend the streak again.

Adri

Re: 2024-02-05 Update (Weekend feeder issue)

Thanks for the explanation, Adri. That makes sense. The stats ran recently, and 2024-02-05 was simply a double day, so we're all caught up!

Now, onto the assimilators :P

"....Can you lose everything
You ever had planned?
Can you sit down again
And play another hand?
Could you risk everything
For the chance of being alone?
Under pressure find the grace
Or would you come undone?

That's how legends are made,
At least that's what they say...." -- Bryan Adams "Never Let Go"

I've lost streaks, I've lost badges somehow, but I haven't lost what's important..the ability to crunch these tasks until we have the answers. Yes, it's frustrating, annoying, and downright vexatious! But let no man, woman, or any other gender identity, be faint of heart in our task. Now is the time. Today is the day. Whether we move by plodding steps or leaps and bounds, we are still achieving so much that could not be done in decades of physical labor in laboratories or smaller-scale computing. As Churchill wrote: "Come, let us go forward with our united strength."

Pleased to read your results showed in your statistics. I haven't seen an overly big increase in the number of results returned over all, would have expected to see 2 million+ I would have thought.
Full days results returned since the feeder issue
