I haven't seen any problems here. All caches are full up, units ar3 reporting as per normal and the fact that the assimilators are not functioning as well as they should is merely a backend problem which, so far, has not had any effect on the crunching.

I haven't seen any problems here. All caches are full up, units ar3 reporting as per normal and the fact that the assimilators are not functioning as well as they should is merely a backend problem which, so far, has not had any effect on the crunching. Aren't you lucky! The web site including stats, the forum and the sending and receiving BOINC servers were not operational for several hours Saturday morning (Pacific Time), resulting in the "feeder not running" messages in the BOINC client and thus unable to upload, report and download. About 2h after I posted about the problem on their FB page (as the forum was inaccessible), which did not have any info about this (nor did their Twitter/X account), it seemed someone kicked the tires and all things started (slowly in case of downloads) working again... Exactly the same problem as it showed two weeks ago... Ralf |

Fully operational would mean that OPN queues new batches for distribution as quickly as project scientists can submit experiments.
Instead, our one GPU experiment distributes little bursts of work each day for untold months. That's all the WCG servers seem to be able to handle without disaster. True functionality hasn't happened in so long that our community forgets it's possible. We used to run six projects at once. The intake program for new projects, the ongoing re-prioritization weighing the different experiments between projects, the technical aspects of keeping so many different pieces of software operational, the software beta testing to keep experiments running efficiently on modern devices - that's all on pause. |

Hi everyone, it seems that this issue is happening again.
----------------------------------------29/02/2024 18:30:29 | World Community Grid | Server error: feeder not running Do you have the feeder issue again? Or, I am the only one having this issue? Please let me know. Thank you ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by puurome at Feb 29, 2024 5:32:23 PM] |

Looks like it again. I'm getting the same error and WUs staying at Ready to Report.
----------------------------------------Yet through all these issues, they still seem able to remove "inactive" users on a regular basis. Do they not think about the users who have passed away from the same disease they most likely crunched against? Or that when a user comes to log in or get work, the site is down or there is no work so they move on to another project? GET RID OF THE POLICY OF REMOVING INACTIVE USERS...DO NOT HIDE BEHIND THAT GDPR COMPLIANCE BS AS IT DOESN'T APPLY HERE! |

Hi puurome and bluestang,
We alerted the data centre to an issue with our Gitlab server's network connectivity, and during the maintenance required to reboot that specific VM we noticed a brief period of network instability. Open terminals connected to the BOINC database server at the time lost that connection, according to the tech team. Typically the feeder crashes when it cannot reach the BOINC database server as many of the BOINC components do. So far it looks like this was a one-off due the feeder being unable to contact the BOINC database at that time, and this is unlikely to recur in the same way. |

Reading this makes it seem like everything is working. I just noticed I have no tasks being worked on. Are things working correctly?

I'm limping along too, running at under 50% of capacity.
Some (community provided) info is here https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,46362 The project basically doesn't communicate. Maybe monday was not a working day over there? Let's mention the phrase 'status page' again. I don't have much hope anything will happen this time, but still..... |
