Re: No CPU work units avalable?

Sgt. Joe,

Regarding SCC1, with a bit of luck they've suspended it whilst they deal with the bad batch(es) of WUs :-) ...

Strange that you're not getting MCM1 work... That said, I did have to kick one of my systems because it had gone into one of those "There wasn't any work so I'll stop looking" states... (Some of the others were getting an automated kick once every 15 minutes anyway.) The quicker ones have already managed to pick up replacements for finished tasks from this set, so failure to get any work is a bit odd...

I have already had some retries and keep seeing "committed to other platforms" so I'm guessing there were quite a few download errors as folks tried to get the big data file (that really should be a "sticky" file!), and if you happen to ask for work when there are lots of retries for another O/S in the queue, you may miss out, and the delays between requests increase again... (Insert expression of frustration here!)

Cheers - Al.

P.S. My cache sizes are well under a day, and all my profile quotas are quite small, so I may just be getting lucky :-) -- limits are low because I run ARP1 and want to turn that work over as soon as I can; running out occasionally is part of that compromise!

Re: No CPU work units avalable?

I am still getting the message"No tasks available" "Tasks committed to other platforms" messages for both Windows and Linux systems for MCM. I do see why I am not getting any SCC tasks as a bunch errored out so they must be fixing that before they send any more of those. I suspect I will get some MCM eventually, I am patient.
Cheers

@Sgt.Joe
Same here, also getting "No tasks available", and "Tasks are committed to other platforms" at every request. I did get 4 MCM1 resends 2 hours ago, but after that, nothing.

Re: No CPU work units avalable?

Hello Foxter and Sgt.Joe, we are aware of BOINC client communication issues with WCG servers -- we are investigating the cause. There is sufficient pool of WUs available, and it doesn't look like anything is down or wrong -- we will update you as we learn more.
@Cyclops
Could the "No Tasks Available" be the result of the WU's we returned with ERRORs?

Re: No CPU work units avalable?

I just noticed the time listed on the forum for my posts is off by one hour. I am at UTC minus 5 hours and the forum time is listing UTC minus 6 hours. Some server is not time synced properly.

Adjust your time zone in your forum profile ahead by 1 hour during daylight savings time Sgt.Joe.

Cheers coffee

Thanks, I should have realized the reason. Now that I have re-engaged my brain in thinking, I won't worry about it anymore. I will also not switch my time zone to Eastern Time because then I would just have to switch it back in the Fall. I just need to remember that the forum does not adjust for daylight savings time.

Also, MCM units have resumed dribbling in. Haven't filled the queue yet, but at least they are available.

Cheers

Re: No CPU work units avalable?

Just to update WCG staff people as they don't seem to know what is going on until we scream.

ARP isn't validating even when multiple results are returned. Only MCM is going out (my queue is small, so I can't tell how many MCMs are going out).

If it would help we, the users, can have a thread where we post daily updates to the status of the machine from our point of view. I think many of us already do in the individual project areas, but I don't think anyone is reading it and passing that info on to the team. I think at this point the team should just assume that something went wrong over the weekend and Monday is a fix the system day.

Re: No CPU work units avalable?

I got _4 SSC1, the ones that errors out and a few MCM1 on my Linux system, none on my Windows. No scripts so that might explain the poor result. Both CPUs take a breather until they get it sorted.

If they do know what is going on, the PR machine to let us know is malfunctioning.

Re: No CPU work units avalable?

As of 5/20/2023 I get intermittent MCM WUs; sometimes only 2 or 3 per attempt to get new WUs. I've set my dowload limit to 15, but it takes several update cycles just to get 10-11, and sometimes there's nothing at all. A few SCCs over the last few days including the computation error ones. ARP was sporadic over last few days, maybe one or two WUs total (for comparison with MCM issues).
I run what I can when I can. But this is just an awful state of affairs for all concerned.
